Yes
The diffusers are legal http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/74475

Oh it's so good to see Flav and his cohorts get stuffed for not being on the ball. Ross Brawn has proved once again that he is probably THE best engineering brain and strategist in motor racing today.

The rest of the season should be very interesting as the rest try and catch up and Brawn tackles the problem of getting KERS to work in his cars - I think they will need it by the end of the season.

I wonder which of the big players will get their double diffuser out first? I bet they're already a long way down the road to being ready to race

A rare bit of common sense from the FIA... I am sure they will rectify that over the weekend!

Ross Brawn has made his name by being able to interpret rules to a higher degree than anyone else and also to be able to back that interpretation up when challenged.

The fact that he actually gave the rest of the teams a get-out clause a year ago makes the whole episode even funnier.

I wonder what all the FIAFerrari fans will make of it?

Hopefully Brawn can hold off the competition but id imagine Ferrari will have new diffusers in the oven as I type this and will do a 1-2 at the weekend.

Known all along its been legal, three teams do it not just one so that alone says something

lets hope racing makes the headlines now, not of track problems, mind you, still the liargate affair left to go now

Wahey! A good decision by the FIA  Would have made a (more of a) mockery of the sport if they were declared illegal.

The comments personally directed to Ross Brawn from Renault and especially Ferrari were a bit out of order - especially considering all that Ferrari owe Ross.

Regards, James

just need all this **** with mclaren over, and we can go back to racing :D

I think your pushing it there mate, we can go back to parade laps is more like it :thumbs:

Used to be a huge F1 fan, went to various races and events.. (Dear god the scream of an Formula 1 car at full throttle whizzing by just has to be heard to be believed-TV doesnt do it justice)
But-started getting a bit disillusioned with it all when the FIA started introducing new regs etc-some of which (Most) are downright stupid..
ie the day they decided to stick 6ft wooden planks under the cars, and Ayrton Senna went to his death. (Yeah yeah-no link between the two.....)
Just wish theyd let the drivers simply get on with it!
These days, seems the sport has become very "picky",and drivers simply sit in a computer controlled (Mostly) car, doing parade laps while the rest of their team trys ever harder to dig up a little dirt on the competition..
Dang...Give them all a simple weight/engine CC limit, full manual cars, and let F1 get back to the exhiliration it once held..

(/me puts on Asbestos suit :D )

My view is that F1 is supposed to be a technical hotbed of innovation which eventually filters it's way down to road cars where we can all get the benefit. However, the rules just stifle all that these days so we don't see anything new or interesting come out.

I do think something needs to be put in place to stop just throwing money at a problem, but apart from that, I'd like to see the FIA state that as long as the cars fit in a box so long, high and wide, they're legal.

I want to see six wheeled cars coming out, and cars with huge fans and dynamic wings and stuff. I want to see what great engineering can come up with.

perhaps as the world is on some big eco-kick at the moment, make a regulation so that the cars can only use 200litres of petrol during a race (or some appropriate figure), and if manufacturers think they can get more energy from solar power or brake regeneration, then good for them.

right now, all the cars seem to look the same.

RedBull...when they get their stacked diffusor, they will be very very fast, the car is built like a ground-effect car to maximise the available downforce, the addition of that diffusor will make that car very very fast....

All driven by slightly strange looking folk, some of whom bring along a dog and have a pidgeon fixation???

Glad I just picked up my ticket to Barhrain next week - should be quite interesting if teams have these double decker diffusers already in the bag.

Lets see if Jenson can keep it up when ferrari and red bull do use them in anger as I am pretty sure they will be testing them right now....and Matty do you really have manboobs:lol::lol::lol:

In any case it will be hard for the other teams to catch up as no testing is allowed during the season. They better hope the computers and wind tunnels tell them enough!

The plank was introduced after Roland Ratzenberger (who is always forgotten about) and Ayrton Senna were killed that weekend at Imola, along with a raft of other changes to the cars, to slow them down. There were a number of huge accidents in the early part of that year. Jean Alesi very nearly broke his neck in a testing shunt for Ferrari, and Rubens Barrichello was lucky not to be seriously injured on the Friday at Imola. Lets not forget at the next round at Monaco, Karl Wendlinger had an enormous accident and ended up in a coma. The cars were getting too quick for the circuits and the safety standards of the time, and needed to be slowed down. A lot of circuits underwent some very hasty work to improve run off and/or slow some corners that had been identified as dangerous.

Anyway, back on topic, I'm very pleased with today's verdict. It's about time the powers that be in F1 did something good for the sport.

Even though they were one of the protesting teams, the rumour is that BMW will have their own Brawn/Williams/Toyota style diffuser on the car in Shanghai this weekend.

I would love to see F1 cars go back to being driver controlled with manual gearboxes. Hi-tech mechanically but without all the computer controls would be ideal.

F1 without the Max and Bernie who can we screw next show- an even better idea .

rumour has it that they will struggle most to incorporate this design because they have gone unusual on their rear suspension set up, but we shall see, F1 and rumours are wierd things methinks. Ferrari were claiming it would entail a redesign of the gearbox a few weeks ago, but BMW said they had already eveluated such a design - for which read 'we have one ready and waiting to fit' if past examples are anything to go by imo.

yeah the rear package of the redbull makes it difficult, but Newey is damned clever, he will do it. BMW? Will have it ready for this weekend i reckon!

redbull have gone for a pullrod system for their rear suspension, which poses a problem as i presume the dampers probably ocupy some of the space needed for the new 'doubledecker' defuser.
http://www.formula1.com/news/technical/2009/0/626.html illustrates this alot better

http://www.gurneyflap.com/Resources/RB.jpg
this is the back end of the RB5, you can see the pullrod going down just infront of the lefthand rear wheel.

compare that with the brawn...
http://www.formula1.com/news/technical/2009/0/640.html

and you might get some interference issues with parts occupying areas that the diffuser needs to occupy! but dont worry newey will sort it out!

Renault easily they already have it, just they where told before it wa illegal, so have never fully developed or used it.

Teams running KERS will have some major redesigns to do.

Renault are suppose to have one for this weekends GP

I can see Red Bull being a force to be reckoned with in the coming months with the double decker diffuser onboard

According to a friend who works for Renault, they are running one diffuser this weekend and putting it on Fernando Alonso's car. Because of the short notice, the diffuser is being flown out to China on Flav's personal jet (which has had to have some seats removed in order to fit the diffuser in safely).

pretty pointless sticking it on Piquets car, may as well just sling it in the gravel trap and save the time of fitting it

Very true :lol
I did think that running one one car and not the other may show the difference in it but with Renault is wont with nelson preferring off roading

I believe Renault are revising the diffuser to fit this for Piquet :whistling:

Maybe a satnav could also help him stay out of the gravel. Hmm wonder what voice I would choose?

what the hell is flavio briatores problem??? apart from sour grapes of course!?

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/74562

i find it amusing that hes singling out brawnGP when Williams and Toyota also have this diffuser he seems to suggest is going to bankrupt him and kill everyones children.

what a moaner!

i juts thought that too when reading it, must only due to brawn doing good, and him not

the seasons just got interesting IMHO
vettel on pole and the brawns back in 4th+5th

will be interesting to see the fuel loads later to see who was light (alonso?)

now briatore has NOTHING to moan about....

he'll find something. either that or mr useless will provide him with something to whinge about tomorrow.

looking at the grid for tomorrow no other team has a grid differential (between their 2 drivers) of 16 places, now i can agree that piquet doesnt have a 'super' diffuser like alonso, but still it pretty much demonstrates just how **** piquet is and given his results so far this year and last he needs replacing asap.

Maybe Flav is trying to position himself as malicious enough to take Max's job when he finally decides to give up.

Yeah he shouldnt be there.

Status Quo been restored to F1 in that the best designers in F1 have there cars in the top 2 after completely new rules a cars rather then development/evolutions of previous cars. Brawn at BrawnGP the mastermind of the Benniton and Ferrari winning packages, and Adrain Newy at Redbull the mastermind of the William's and Mclearning winning pacakges.
