My aim this morning was to format and partition my Hard drive but I am running into problems inas much that I dont have a separate windows xp disc.. only the damn thing from HP with Windows xp on it which doesnt give the option for windows only.

is the way to go to use Fdisc and create a small partition for windows and a couple of others too and then install from the HP disc and uninstall the **** that I dont want? or can I not format the c drive while windows is still on it?

QUICK... I want to get started!!! :D

Hmmmmmm. I hope you have another PC/laptop to run back here for help if you get stuck. :D

Most likely, you have to use the HP recovery CD/DVD and have to install all the crap that it comes with, and then remove all the unwanted stuff after it's complete.

How big is your HDD?

I would partition at least 20GB for your C:\.

Then you can split up the rest any how you like.

If you have Windows XP installer, it can boot up from that and it will allow you to make a partition to install Windows on. The other partitions you create after you've got Windows installed.

Oh, you cannot format C: while you're still using it.

found lots of info. fdisk it is!

If i dont see you all again... byeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!:D

Hmmmmmmm. Someone call Emergency IT services if Janice isn't back by 8pm.

Well Im back but not over-happy! Ive spent all day.. knew exactly what I wanted to do but couldnt!

I have had to admit defeat.... mostly because of the Windows installation being on the HP Recovery disc and not on a disc of its own.

I used FDisk and made a small partition ready for windows then couldnt install windows to that partition... even though I had made at least 2 windows xp discs, (one bootable) following instructions off the net how to extract windows from a recovery disc...they wouldnt just "start installing"...I was getting the A prompt and then I couldnt change to another drive any how.

Never mind....I have a nice shiny new faster, unclogged pc now anyway......Im just a bit miffed that it physically defeated me ... Id have been fine with an XP disc.

Welcome back. :) And well done. OEM install/recovery discs are not the best.
