Forgotten how good full fat milk is

I remember the small milk bottles we used to get at school. We'd leave them on the window sill and then strain it and make cottage cheese.

Do they still do sterilised milk? It came in a long tall bottle, it was absolutely awful. But I remember having to use it as a kid, probably because not many people had fridges way back then
If you mean UHT then yes, now in cartons. Just as vile as ever.

Sterilised milk isn't the same as UHT milk.....It's treated even more harshly and tastes even worse. Bleugh!

Yes, I know I can do that. But I did not bother, as I tend to get carried away on youtube. I have already spent a couple of hours listening to music, if I go back on to watch that clip, I will spend another hour or so listening to music. I have to get in the Kitchen now, I can't waste any more time on youtube. I can always spare time for Talk photo :)

red top all the way for me. If your spooning full fat into your cup you might as well chop a block of lard into your tea!
Mmm LARD! The new superfood. Good idea about using it in tea, I might try it instead of the usual butter.
I've just started buying lard again now it has been declared to be healthier than all that horrible tasting vegetable oil but it is hard to find - Sainsburys don't sell it, have to go to Waitrose. Morrisons sell it but don't declare if it is unhygrogenated.

I remember the days of Lard for the spuds, usually accompanied by billowing smoke and an angry woman screaming " get out the kitchen "

Just switched back to full fat ( wife is off her diet) but at least the coffee tastes better ;) Been drinking dishwater for 20 odd years so will keep real milk in the fridge.

That is what I have noticed, full fat milk does seem to make a nice Coffee. I used to like ground Coffee with cream years ago, might get a percolator and give it another go :)

Oh cream in proper coffee is lush.

Just fancy a lovely strong real Coffee, with cream. With a scone of course. Yummy :)
No coffee for me after late afternoon.
I sleep poorly enough as it is :(

Me too. I try to limit myself to 3 coffees per day and not to drink it after 3pm. A cuppa at 4 and that's me pretty much finished drinking - if I have a pint in the evening, I'm up at 2 to dispose of it!

Gheez thanks you lot... now i am tempted to run out and buy some 'proper' milk and make a decent coffee (can't remember the last time i had full fat milk)... trying so hard to not drink it so much and up pops you lot :P

Been drinking/using semi-skimmed milk for the best part of 30 years (there was a period of a few days where my ex-wife tried to force skimmed milk on me..... or "white water" as I called it )

We've been buying full fat milk for Evie since she turned a year in June and I tend to use any leftovers from her evening bottle in my tea, it really is something else :)

No no!! If you're going to go and buy milk for your coffee, get a small pot of cream (real cream) and try that in the coffee instead.
Your taste buds will love you forever :-)

Double cream of course floated on top, with Brandy underneath :)

Off to Tesgrot's back soon :D

I've always had whole milk. Could never stand the semi-skimmed stuff. Can't imagine what skimmed or longlife stuff would taste like :puke:

My mum used to do that for us, a real treat it was too, especially if your mum had done it :)

My mum could never get the cream to float, so I did it :)

Make your mind up.
Was it your mum or Chris's mum? ;)

Like pure evil in a glass. :(

I've gone off full-fat milk since we went onto semi-skimmed - I guess I've got used to it. Fully skimmed is just yuck though!

Interesting fact: All milk sold in the UK (excluding from the farm gate) is fully skimmed as part of the processing and they add the fat back in for "semi" and whole" -

I remember when younger we had an elderly lady as a customer (mum and dad owned a grocery store) who bought 4 bottles of sterilised milk every Saturday and Wednesday without fail. She didn't own a fridge (those were the days) and I remember they had the lethal metal caps on that used to cut your fingers when getting them out of the crate.

Tasted nothing like milk either.:puke:

It was places gently on the top, poured over the back of a spoon ;)
Yep but with a clean cold spoon and a slight clockwise swirl of the coffee. ;)
