...thinking about zipping up since its not far from me. any recommended locations this time of year??

cool, cheers. was also wondering where's colourful i.e. a good spot to catch it in action now that the leaves are turning... :)

It is a little too early for the colours yet and ir you intend to go via Gloucester there are long delays due to road works at Over. Come via Chepstow and up the Wye valley road lots of good views there and then cut up into the Forest from Momouth..

If you get time, check out the National Bird of Prey centre in Newent, and Symmonds Yat Rock.

I did a long weekend out that way a couple of months ago, great place for photography (but the Mrs said is wasn't that great for shopping )

Park End area is my favourite, most wild birds tend to congregate at larger car parks and visitor centres as that's where they get fed.:)
Early mornings are best to catch sight of deer moving about, there are lots of them about at the moment.

Lot's of fungi around wherever dead wood has been felled.

Not many leaves turning yet though, I was down there on Monday last. Watch out for the wild boar hehe.
As above mentioned roadworks at Over are very bad at busy times of the day.

I went to the Forest of Dean during a holiday in August, and highly recommend Symmonds Yat. The view from Yat Rock is pretty impressive.

The Wye Valley isn't too far away either and Tintern is a nice stop with the ruined Tintern Abbey and the River Wye providing nice photography locations.

First post by the way, so hi all! :)

When is the Wyedean Rally on? I'd love to go to it one time but it always seems to clash with footie :(
