Anyone have one of these?
im looking to purchase one and i just want to get some feedback.
im looking at the 1.6 tdci as it has the best fuel economy but if the 1.8 is better performance wise then i may go for that.

any info is greatly appreciated!

i have the c max with the 1.8 tdci , that particular engine is quite an old 8 valve design , whereas the 1.6 tdci is a 16 valve design i believe , i can get 40 mpg out of mine round town , and i do like the traffic light grand prix , i would have had the 2.0 litre if i could have :woot:
 
cheers, i just need to find one that i like now, ideally i would like one that has some warranty left and it also has to have an armrest! purely because it finishes off the interior perfectly!

0-60 is about the same, but the 1.8 has more grunt (read Torque) in the mid range compared to the 1.6, and it is noticable.

I personally have the 1.8tdci in my mk2 focus (Not the facelifted versin that's out now) but i've been perfectly happy with it. Sure, it costs an extra £75 to tax per year, and uses a little bit more fuel, but i'm getting consistant 50-52mpg out of it. But i do a bit of motorway driving, and only a little around the roads.

One thing you will notice, is that the 1.6d has smaller brakes at the front, 270mm, and some even have drums at the back, whilst the 1.8d has 300mm discs front, and discs rear.

The .8tdci will happily go to about 250k as long as it's looked after, and this is proven, but the 1.6 is a new engine, with not many even over the 100k mark yet, so the jury is out ont he reliability of it. Looks to be as reliable as the 1.8 though.
 
I dont know much about the specs of the types but I have a 1.6 tdci 58 plate style with sports pack (and a home fitted armrest from ebay :) took about 40 mins to fit)and am very happy with it, I get about 54-55mpg when driving sensibly (mainly do motorway miles) and about 51mpg if I 'go go go Murray Walker stylee' at the lights etc. great cheap tax and saves a fortune on fuel now Petrol has come up so much :woot:
 
I've got an '05 1.6 TDCI Focus estate

I think the engine is stunning , its reasonably quick for its size and the economy is excellent , I've just come back from the lake district (160 miles each way for me) and I got just over 50mpg towing a small trailer !

Round town and running the kids about etc it shows about 48mpg , but motorway miles will get you 55mpg plus

I also think the performance is good for its size and it will cruise very nicely at 80 -90 mph without any stress

i test drove new 1.6 and 1.8 recently, and have been given info from a reasonbly reliable source (though i think he overheard the info while cleaning trap 2)

the 1.6 goes well, its better on acceleration and feels more perky, the 1.8 is more lazy - the 1.8 is the old engine from the mk2 that i drive now, so old tech, the 1.6 is a variant of the new 2.0 - newer tech...personally id go with the 1.6, unless your pounding the motorways the 1.8 doesnt give you anything that the 1.6 does, if you can arrange a test drive its worth it

Ford build the 1.6 unit and supply PSA. The TDCi engines are a joint venture, shared development etc. although there are some specification and mechanical differences between engines supplied to different manufacturers.
 
So who makes the fuel system?

tdci used to be delphi - which I understand to be not the greatest.
HDi used to be Bosch or Siemens.

I know Ford did use Delphi, not sure if they still do. Some of the engine /fuelling components are sourced by PSA for Ford though, a few years back there was long waits for Ford diesel models because PSA were holding back on supply.
 
specs keep changing, have a look on ford website...

I remember when I first started work at ford, flicking through the parts list and coming across Peugeot Engines. Up until then I'd assumed that they did all their own stuff.
 
it makes sense to share development costs, and it may help to produce better product when more than one company is looking at it..
 
just to inform everyone, i purchased a 57 plate 1.8 tdci zetec in tonic blue with 20,000 miles on the clock. in really good nick inside and out. Got a lot more for my 52 plate mg zr than i expected- £1600 so i paid £6995 for the car. The car was so new in that it hadnt even been prepped so i guess i saw it in its best condition to determine whether it was worth purchasing.

I'm well happy but i cannot pick it up till a week saturday and i hate waiting for things but i guess it will be worth it!!

in fact here is the car itself as its still up on the website. The mileage isnt correct on the website they are 3000 miles out!!

I am looking to order a new 1.8 diesel Focus Zetec come November, but need to take a good look at one as there are plenty of other options available including the new Megane.
I need plenty of room as my car is like a taxi service with my grown up children :lol:.
Any advice on this model is welcome.

read some reviews. the only complaint with the focus is road noise on some wheel types. hopefully my company car will get sorted soon and i will have either the 1.6 titanium or the 2.0 titanium..
 
Actually, that is one thing that i have noticed.

It's a little louder in the cabin due to road noise than other cars i've been in.

But it#s no biggie, just turn the radio up to the next even number, or speak a bit more loud.

If you know someone who works for Ford Motor Co. (works at Bridgend, not a dealer) have a word with them, they may be able to get you a bit more money off on top of whatever price you can negotiate on a new Focus (mention Ford Ambassador Scheme to them). I'd also suggest finding a dealer as far from the factory as you can. Those nearer the factory will likely be selling more cars due to the locality of Ford workers. Further away, they are not likely to be selling so many so more liable to be offering a better deal.
