Some years ago, Ford offered as an option on some of their "sportier" cars a very striking vivid orangey-yellow.

Anybody know what it was called?

There was a signal yellow and a Daytona yellow on the mkII Mexico around 1978. Or is that too far back.

Boy-Racer orange? ;)

The later one is called Electric Orange I think (sounds like some form of prog rock band ...)

It sounds more "progressive" than Tangerine Dream that's for sure :D

OP, You need our resident expert on all things flawed. I mean Ford
@nilagin

There's a couple of Focus RS's locally in the eye bleeding orange, and the equally odd green :D

Yeah i liked that orange on the last focus St.

Signal orange. 3.0L capri came in this colour. Was a yellowy orange colour

RS was never sold in orange they will be ST's. The RS was sold in predominantly Frozen White, Performance Blue and Ultimate Green the colours of the BP Ultimate livery on the works rally cars at the time. The RS500 was wrapped in Matt Black vinyl.
Mk2 ST's were available in Electric Orange, otherwise known as Asbo Orange.
Mk3's in Tangerine Scream.

Daytona Yellow was early to mid 70's. Late 70's would have been Signal Yellow. Signal Orange and Signal Red were also available at the time.
In 2000 the KA, Puma and Focus were available in a limited edition Millennium Yellow.
In the 90's the Mondeo was available in Citrine Yellow although that had a hint of green not orange.
It would help if we knew what time period or specific cars.

My father bought a Daytona Yellow Escort 1300GT Estate, the first brand new car we had as a family.......my brother and I had the odd argument as to whose "turn" it was to have use of it :)

It was a special order from the Halewood plant and took 13 weeks to be delivered, for what it was, it was a special car. It was great to drive especially 5 up with the back full of gear for our north Wales climbing trips. A friend in the climbing club let me drive his TR6 off the back of the fact i was now driving a 'faster' car and he was therefore happy to let me have a go in it.

Not too sure but I think we got it about 1974.........hmmmmm! year letter L rings bells.

Oh, and the green fly loved that colour

Cheers chaps. I justcaught a glimpse of the car concerned when it was pointed out to me and I'm not sure what model it was, but it can't have been more than 15 years old. Definitely a Ford though. If you take the yellow they use for the background of diversion signs and so on, brighten it, then add just a touch of orange, it's that sort of colour. A very loud, deep yellow, not unlike the one used on some fairly recent Citroens.

No big deal though. I'm only after spraying a model in a colour that its young owner has taken a fancy too ...

There was Saffron Yellow, but I think it was for commercial vehicles only.

It's the only yellow with a hint of orange I am aware of in the last 15 years. Other than that it was the already mentioned Millennium yellow in 2000 or Bright Yellow used around 10yrs ago on the Ka and Anniversary Fiesta which was a Zetec S with a chequered flag roof.

My first car was a Ford capri in oyster gold with a black vinyl roof. Never seen a gold oyster in real life though ?

Bright Yellow is still in use on the Ecosport (Solid)

I'm pretty sure the colour your refer to is Signal Orange - it was quite a rare colour and not for the faint hearted. My mate had an RS Mexico in that colour and I don't recall ever having seen another one. I had a much more common Signal Yellow RS2000 custom

Thanks again, guys. The car we saw was parked round the back of an office near the local Halfords, and the bloke who does the paint-mixing in there now reckons he knows the car and can find out the colour for me then make up a rattle can of it! So ... it looks like that's me sorted :)

Used to see a few signal orange Escorts back in the late 70's but most people seemed to go for the yellow. The most common colour of choice usually tied in with what colour the car was modelled in, in the brochures at the time. Signal orange seemed more popular on the Capri S.

My first car an XR2 was sunburnt red which might have been the orange you seek

It was better looking than the Mazda it was based on.

Enter the registration in here https://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRegSelector.do and it should tell you the exact colour.

Please i me that what lurks beneath that awful paint job is at least a 2.8 V6 :D
lol it was a 2.0 to start with then came a 2.8 the paint job wasnt that bad lol

But not as good as its other rival the Vauxhall Calibra.
Thankfully Ford have made amends over its obvious rival over the years and in my own personal opinion offer a more attractive set of cars.

Nick Pulovski: [looking at a Lotus painted a garish neon green] Wanna know what's a crime? Whoever defaced that work of art by painting it that color... ought to have his ass removed.

Talking of defacing a work of art, many years ago now, a friend of ours had of all things a white Lada saloon of which she was very fond. (She was weird in other ways too.) One night she left it parked in a street which, unknown to her, was notorious for cars being vandalised in it.

When she walked towards it the next morning, she was heartbroken to find that somebody in possession of an aerosol of red paint had writ large upon its nearside the foulest four-letter word he could think of ...

I remember driving my dad's Lada Riva. Actually it was his second, and the only car he bought from new (£2,499!) Best heater on any car I've driven...zero to tac-nuke in about three seconds.
I did feel for him though when, within 4 years, the car had rusted sufficiently badly to rule out hope of passing the MOT...ever. (the underside was like Swiss cheese!)

My mates dad used to have a Riva too. It had the softest suspension imagineable wallowing all over the road.

I remember driving my dad's Lada Riva.

That's very sad.

Anyhow, sod it - the bit I missed out of the story is that all the cars on that side of the street had been sprayed. Sarah's was the only one that had "LADA" on it rather than "F**K" without the asterisks.
