OK, so having read some tips on boosting your websites ranking in search engines, I see one of the tips is having links to other peoples sites on your 'Links' page and vice versa. Soooo who would like to partake in a little link exchange?

I don't know of the best way to do this ... Maybe if you reply here with your website link, plus a note in 10 words or so what you specialise in?

Example:

www.jo-fisher.com ~ Home decor photography and handmade photographic greeting cards.

Then maybe those wanting to pop a few links on their 'links' page can run through the thread and pick out what they want?

NOOOOOOOO,,,, Im not linking to other people's sites with better photos than mine!!! ;)

Had an SEO chat about this a year ago, and supposedly (Google et al) were getting wise to reciprocal linking and were downgrading your site if found !!!

Best solution seemed to be not to link back to each other, but to create a 'round Robin' affair, where A links to B, B to C, C to D, D to A sort of thing

Assuming my info was correct then, they'll be even keener now, so as they say on telly 'I'm out!'

Really? Well that's a bit pants :shake:

Though I didn't mean for everybody to add everybodies link that posts (including mine :$ but thank you!) .. just if you want maybe to add links for others who do differet tyes of photography to you. Does that makes sense?

While DD has a point see here, here, here it's only going to work against large scale affiliate linking schemes...when you're talking a half dozen reciprocal links, it's VERY unlikely to have any effect.

So I'm in, and so far I've got

http://www.jo-fisher.com/
http://www.didgiwidgi.co.uk/
http://www.hepburnia.com/
http://www.samuelcoxphotography.co.uk/
http://www.fivewaysphotography.co.uk/
http://www.cc-photography.co.uk/

I'm thinking this is entirely reciprocal, so if those listed above wouldn't mind adding

Portrait, Commercial and Product Photography. Acton, Ealing, Chiswick, West London. www.ianmercer.com

It'd be appreciated....

I believe backlinks are still very useful but they're much more effective if they relate to your own site....ie the idea here, photography to photography - I managed a pretty decent Google ranking using them anyway

Only problem is when you get a decent ranking site adding more and more "lower" rated sites can actually drain your own ranking

Quick question.

How do you add the signature images? Newbie on these forums.

Thx

Content in king for SEO ;) Describe what you do, but don't overdo it (like spam). If it's a photography site, put a caption below each image explaining what the shot is about, or what inspired you to take it, or where it was shot? The more relevant content you have on the site the better. Rankings will come.

Do the web search spiders list flash based websites? A lot of people (me being one of them) are heading down this route, especially with the more common broadband usage.

Yes Chris. Mines flash based and is listed heavily in google.

Reciprocal links all going up tonight folks. It certainly helps by backlinking to relevant ie photography sites, as opposed to 'dog food' sites for example.:naughty::lol:

I'm in.... http://oxford-photography.co.uk/default.aspx

Description: Specialising in Pregnancy, boudoir and family portraits, events and special occassions.

I'm happy to add anyone, but would prefer not to add any from Oxford (sorry!) However, if you are from Oxford, I'd be happy to add any links to any other business you may have or recommend that isn't photography based!

EDIT: Updated link to show http: Thanks J Gordon (Below)

Thx JG

Good to know. If anyone else wants a link to my site then just let me know (pref not cheshire based lol).

Top tip folks. All links need to start http:// or they have a far lower value and may not even be counted.

Uploading links to mine now, please add reciprocal links. With thanks.

Both I believe. In the past I've had what I thought were several dozen links only to find two were counted due to the missing http, so best used in text and link to be sure. Mine all uploaded now.

Sorry mate, will upload at the weekend, I knew i'd miss at least one. Thanks for the heads up.

Small scale reciprocal linking is unlikely to do any harm to rankings, but it's worth making sure that you get inbound links with relevant anchor text i.e. the text that is clicked upon.

For example, instead of using http://www.talkphotography.co.uk as the anchor text, use photography forum.

The reason for doing this is that it gives search engines a better idea of what the linked website is about.

As far as i know, you have it back to front. Reciprocal linking isn't bad..its how you go about it. Your idea of a round affair is actually one of the worse ways to take part in...triangular type link exchanges are very much frowned upon in the search engines.

I'll add my site to the reciprocal list too..link is in my siggie..linking info is on my links page.

:)

Any more for any more?
