i don't know if its just me ,but i often browse through the for sale threads on here ,and to be honest am sometimes tempted .the one thing that puts me off though is buying unseen .i know we have feedback etc but personally i would rather handle the goods and pay cash ,so does anyone else think it would be a good idea to include location in a for sale advert and to make it a de-facto in placing the ad
 
Sounds like a good idea to me - maybe a prefix as seen in the meet up area? I reckon a general area tag would be enough, although if members want to add a more specific location, it would be even more helpful.
 
could always just ask if its a big deal assuming location isn't in someone's profile
 
I still prefer to see something with my own eyes before buying ,and these day within a 100 mile radius pick up can often be cheaper than postage ,I think a general area is good enough I.e city or county
 
Location in sellers ads are a must, for one thing its stops you from asking.
 
maybe if people were a bit more specific with their profile location setting then.

but to make it mandatory on listings? no, I prefer to give as much detail as possible on my listings.

"You can post for someone who is not on the forum, but you must have possession of the goods, and you will assume responsibility for the deal." (C&P from the rules.) Would suggest that the items are available for viewing (or at least should be!) I probably wouldn't be bothered about seeing a memory card or similar but would want to see an expensive lens if at all possible.
 
What has also prompted me to post this is my son recently sold a camera a Nikon d810 ,not on here but on e.bay but it turned out the buyer lived about 50 miles away ,it transpired that it was easier for my son to give me £12 for diesel to deliver the camera by hand than to pay Royal Mail around £30 to insure and post it .plus we both got a coffee from the very attractive purchaser .

The sums of postage money involved as I initially said make it often more viable to travel fairly locally than to buy over distance ,therefore when looking for a bargain the location in my mind anyway plays a big part in it . Yes there are bargains to be had over longer distances but that option still remains in place .just thought it would be a helpfull addition .

I don't think that's what he meant. Not everyone wants random people showing up at their house at all times of day! It also might not be convenient for some people if they travel a lot or have irregular hours.

indeed. i work long days, my time is my time. you'll have to trust my description, photos of the item and indeed my reputation (which is essentially why it's there).

i dont think the "you must be in possession" line implies anything regarding being able to come and see the item.
 
I see this a lot on forums, "price doesn't include P&P", "collection preferred", but then doesn't state where the item is located or has something witty in their location like "on the moon". Same for wanted posts, if I'm local and can help in some way then I would offer but I don't think parcel2go delivers to the moon just yet. Even if it's to the closest large town it would be better than having to ask.
 
Yes, if someone makes a point of offering collection then they should state their location. If they don't give a location, I would assume they don't want collection, and that should be respected.

This ^^. If someone wants to offer collection as an option they should state it and i imagine most do. For everyone else (inc myself) it's just easier to have a 20 min round trip to the local post office / parcel drop shop at my leisure when it's practical. The alternative is hoping someone turns up when they promise and if either party has a last minute emergency and has to call it off it's just unneeded hassle / inconvenience.
