For R5 Owners

@swiftflo Peter

As mentioned I am not a Mac user but even as a PC user I am unsure what you are showing us,?
What is unusual is that the .fir firmware file has a very odd icon....just what is W-space?

And again unusually the .pdf instructions file is showing a folder as the icon???

Can you please explain what it is that you have screen grabbed or taken a picture of so that I/we can learn?
I think the folder is because it contains pdf instructions for lots of different languages, however this folder should not be copied to the SD card - so perhaps that is the issue?

Thanks.

I DL the update from Canon UK, I then saved it in Downloads, then opened it and thats what I got.

And then? Did you copy the .FIR file to the SD Card?
Take a screenshot of the SD Card contents and post that.
I just checked my SD card and all that is on it is :- DCIM & MISC, so it looks as if the FIR file is missing.

You need to copy and paste the .FIR file onto the SD card.

Yes I was under the impression that that is what I had done.

Grrr computers !!!!!!!!

Yes, tell me about it...computers almost have a mind of their own :headbang:

But it does look like you are but a step away from getting it sorted, as per @L320Rio screenshots................once you have copied the file across and when you see the .fir file 'there' on the SD card you should be "good to go" ~ fingers crossed :)

Just click on the .fir file and drag and drop it onto the SD card in finder. That puts it in the right place. (y)

The YouTube video I shared shows my cursor doing that on the screen.

Thanks to everyone who offered their suggestions to overcome my problems with the update. I have finally got it done. All the time it has been as per usual - "operator error".
I was not carrying out the copying of the update to the SD correctly.

Thanks for the update.

Now time to enjoy your 'new' firmware improved camera :)
