Lots of you are parents of young children. You might be interested to know that on 24th of December at 1757 the International Space Station passes from West to East across the sky. It's an incredibly bright, fast moving light that shoots across the sky in 3 minutes.

Or if you're a 4 year old, it's Santa's sleigh on a last training run before the big night.

I've told all my tog friends to use ISS spotter on the app store, not sure if there's an android version, it just makes things easier when you're out in the cold :D
 
It says a training run the night before but isn't that the night he goes anyway?
 
That and the fact that there are different time zones :D

He's definitely quick at what he does, although my wife sometimes says I'm quicker than Santa at something :( :banana:
 
Anyway, you havent got to worry about Santa, he only comes once a year... :coat:

A few years back, somebody worked out that taking into account that he had to visit every home, stop to deliver gifts (or coal!), drink a sherry, eat a mince pie, not to mention the chimney climbs, he was proof that some things could exceed C!

I have a 9 year old son who we think still believes...Do we use this to reinforce the belief in what we think may be his last year? (He's not bothered about the magic I don't think), or do I use the opportunity to nurture an interest in science? :D

That's entirely up to you. Not having kids myself, I'm not sure it's right to either lie to them OR shatter their illusions. I think probably carry on with the pretence but if he's already sussed it (at a guess, you'll be able to tell by the lack of wonderment as he sees the "proof!"), you can explain the science.

Thanks for this - I have let my family know so the nieces and nephews can see the flyby. Assuming the hurricane that appears to be going on right now has passed by then!
