I've just found a place that you will be able to download and install a version of Canon DPP. You can download and install the program and then go to the Canon website to update.

Here's the link http://www.cdifoto.com/dpp.php to the download. I've already copied discs for 3 people who have lost their discs, so it's bound to help someone.

I don't know if it is illegal technically, but as DPP is software given with a camera purchase and is supposed to be included with any sale thereon I doubt there will be any comebacks. You are legally allowed to make a backup copy of software you have bought and I suppose this is for those people who have lost the discs. Alternatively, you could contact Canon and get another copy of the disc that came with your camera, thereby including the rest of the software that is included, but I only really use Canon DPP out of all of them.

Is any of that actually allowed? I know you are trying to help but is it legal?

I've often wondered why Canon don't offer this themselves, the softwares only any good for Canon uses and comes free with the cameras anyway, so not supplying the full thing online seems odd.
Lots of people either misplace the disk or buy a camera second hand with no disk, this is a handy solution.

They do supply it.

AFAIK the downloads available on the Canon website is an update version to the latest issue. Unless you already have it installed on your computer you can't execute their download for a fresh install. I may be wrong though, it's just the last time I reformatted my computer I had all the setup discs in the loft in the camera boxes and after downloading it from Canon I couldn't get it to install.

Yes I was pretty much in the same boat, but I managed to download from Canon and install it okay.

They used to only supply updates, not the full download.
Can you post a link to the full download from canon?

Not the exact link as it was probably about this time last year. But it was just through the usual download center for firmware and drivers etc. (either US or UK version)

Or you can use the registry updates on this page and then install any DPP update version downloaded form Canon.

Note there are different registry settings for 32 and 64 bit Windows - the 64 bit version is further down the page.

Mods, please delete this thread if I have contraveined any rules. This is a post of an internet link, like thousands of other links seen everyday on here, and I'm not trying to break any copyright rules by posting.

I would assume something already available easily to the billions of people worldwide wouldn't be prohibited, but there you go! The software from Canon maybe copyrighted, but it is given away freely to any purchaser of a new camera and many thousands of second hand ones.

There have been a number of other links to the same software already on this thread and all I was doing was trying to make it easier to the people who have bought Canon cameras, and have damaged or mislaid their discs, to regain the software they already own.

I apologise profusely if I have broken any forum rules, it was not my intent whatsoever. I am writing this in response to a PM I received earlier pointing out I may have broken the rules. I must of missed that bit when I went through all the rules when I joined lol. I just happened to see the link posted on the P-O-T-N.net forum http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1256475 and linked in post #6. I just thought if they've got it on, we can have it here to help all the folks who lose their disc.

If in doubt just use the link in my post. It's officially from Canon and its freely distributed so no breaching of any rules I shouldnt think.
