Footy newbie requires tips

Hi, by way of introduction, I have shot wildlife, weddings and gigs for the past few years but have been asked to shoot some local semipro footy teams.

I have some ok gear (60d plus 5d3 bodies, 16-35LII, 50L, 70-200f2.8ISLII, 300f2.8ISL lenses) and bags of enthusiasm and willingness to learn. I had a go last weekend and got some ok images, but, would like to improve. So, could those here who do footy regularly please share some top tips ?

Would love to hear how top pros do this job properly !

ok gear......? envy of many including me! been lusting after a 300m for a while. trying to work out how to get one without the missus noticing!!

Hi meatcandy89, not quite the 1d4 and 400f2.8 set-up that the pros probably have but having such gear is one advantage of being old and doing a few weddings and paid gigs and not having too many vices ! Regards. Gary
 
yeah definatly.

There are plenty of threads on here with tips for football if you have a look around.

If there is anything else im sure there are lots who would be able to help you, ive only done a few games myself so im no expert.

have a look at KIPPAX website, he has a huge amount of football pics on there.

Have just had a quick look at the blog. Some interesting angles on things such as the build up to games using UWA and so on. I thought sports shooting would be all long glass but looks like my 16-35 will get the odd run out to get the setting-the-scene-shots.

Some great info on your site, thanks for sending us that way. Think im going to start shooting more of my local Sunday league games for practice now that the motorsport season is about finished!
