Any advice on taking photos of football matches, just starting out i believe i need a 70-300 lens which i'm currently trying to find cheap.I have taken photos with a fuji s2500hd which was ok but thought i'd try a dslr for the first time.

Like most photography you'll need a good understanding of the subject first and foremost. That's much more important than what lenses you have.

Take a look at newspapers etc and see what is out there, look at composition and subject before thinking "what lens did they use for that".

You need to tell people what sort of football you're looking at as well, is it mates Sunday league team, kids, or wanting to get into premier league stuff (if it's the latter - good luck, it seems like a closed shop)?

There is a necessity for good telephotos, but the sports guys here will tell you more about that.

Hi. I started with a 70-300 but found it had its limitations. Depending on your budget, its probably OK to cut your teeth with a DSLR. More info from you would be helpful.

I help run a local amateur club who play on a saturday it's not a major league or out just lads who like to pay money to play a game of football.I've used the fuji all last season and the lads just love to look at photos of there games on facebook, this is the reason i do it and had a few photos to the web site match reports.I don't want to spend stupid amounts on a lens at this moment in time, just enough to buy a lens that will do a job really.

No idea what camera you have and although the 70-300 isnt the best.. it should be a massive improvement on what you have..

the good thing about your football is that unless its gets dark on a winter afternoon then you dont really need the fast 2.8 lens others need...the distance between your players and the background will be enough to seperate the two...

i went from an olympus bridge camera to a 10d and sigma 70-200.. the difference was massive....the only problem you might have is the problem i had... i got hooked.... years later and thousands of pounds later......still got the bug :)

Hi. Well a Sigma can cost you £130

and a second-hand Canon body, say £200 or less.
