Football Photographer Using Live View

I popped along to our ground to watch a cup semi final last night and there was a photographer from the local weekly freesheet there,I noticed that rather holding the camera to the eye he was using Live View on the back.Any football photographers on here use live view or was this guy a one off

never even crossed my mind....are you sure he wasnt using the video function many dslrs have... personally wouldnt know how to use mine but...

Could get himself into deep trouble if he was, the IOC still havent decided wether or not to allow Nikon D3S or Canon MKIV's into stadiums yet or any video equiped DSLR's

I got the impression it was local league. non league so wouldnt apply.

get caught using it at a conference or league ground and your in big trouble...

I cant say its something i have ever thought about doing. I think you have to ask the question. If its better why aren't the pro's doing it?

It was definately stills not video and it was a charity cup for West Midlands league and Midlands Alliance sides so no FA rules broken

Hence the occasional background rumour of a 1DmkV (or IVa) being released without video capacity before the 1DsMkIV.

I can't see either of those happening though; ie the camera release, or the IOC banning the two principle sports cameras on the market.

I heard a whisper from a pal "in the know" last week that all togs must have specific firmware installed on their gear by on site Nikon and Canon technicians which will disable video.

That's interesting. Should be easy enough to load the previous firmware back on it though.

I think what will make the difference is the same thing that stops pro football photographers shooting video - their careers will be shortlived as they'll lose their accreditation.

Hi, Sorry to go off topic, but can somebody point me in the right direction regarding a statement by the IOC banning video enabled cameras into sporting events. I own a Nikon D3S and this is the first I have ever heared of this and having been a press tog for a number of years (now retired) find it strange that I have not heared of this.

A web link would be great if possible.
