*FOLKESTONE GOLD HUNT*

Oh I really wish I wasn't at work.
Sounds like a giggle.

5....4....3....2.....

They're going to be pretty small "bars"....nevertheless it sounded like fun until I saw this in the BBC's reporting of the event:

"The Folkestone Digs project is part of the town's triennial arts festival. The event, which takes place every three years and runs from 30 August to 2 November, will also feature work by Yoko Ono." :runaway:

Five minutes away...but alas I have no shovel........ but I think I will go for the craic of it......and bring the camera of course..... Low tide is apparently at 20:39

Don't forget your torch, it'll be dark by then ;)
You could of course always pay someone to dig for you...
No, no, lets not go there again :D

I convinced Mrs A that it is a new diet and exercise plan so she is putting on her leotard as we speak...... and its better for the public if she goes down after dark in that lycra gear...... ;)

DAMN! and I live so far away too, :(

Ah sorry miss read that, Mrs A is wearing the leotard :D

And THAT'S why you're rarely permitted south of the Thames, young man
There be dragons down there.
I only go if absolutely necessary,
And for the life of me I can't think of a single reason to cross that damned bridge!
:p

oooOOOooo get you  :-P

It seems to be going viral now that it is being mentioned in the national press. It's going to get a bit silly around here but good for the holiday trade!

thats why i decided to stay at home

wonders if gold would show up as some kind of different heat source ( thermal imaging camera anyone? )

i can speak with a fair bit of authority on this ,most metal detectors that are capable of working on wet sand/beach are also capable of programming to reject/discriminate any washers to .a pulse type m/d will be the deepest but also find all the washers as well .an experienced detectorist with the right machine could clear that beach of gold over a couple of days .15 years ago the whites dfx could be programed /trained to detect only gold or gold rings for instance .also all metals of different types give off a different VDI or visible display indicator number you simply need to run a 9 ct ,18ct ,22ct gold item over the coil and read off the numbers on the computer screen then search and ignore any numbers but those .and machines will have improved since i was forced to give up over health issues three years ago
all my cameras ,lenses equipment etc plus a couple of foreign holidays a year were funded by detecting finds ,and all from legal sources to as in my work i knew a lot of farmers spread over a wide area

Have taken myself down to the beach with my trusty Lumix compact and this is what greeted me . . .

just get a megaphone and run up and down yelling shark shark.. bit of luck that will clear em!

Better yet, get someone to swim around a little offshore with a cardboard fin on his back...THEN start yelling :-)

looks like a metal detecting rally when someone makes a good find ROFPMSL

You just know that I'm going to have to do a doodle based on this what with it being a significant event. Just need to be hit by a brainwave - which always comes to me when I'm not doing any thinking at all.

Of course you must Ian
(Didn't status quo have an album called 12 gold bars? OK so there are 30 but you know :D )

We happened to be down there on holiday nearby when they announced it on the news, so we went and had a look expecting to not be able to get anywhere near the place, but it was remarkably easy to get about. Alas the tide was in and squashed everyone into the last remaining corner.

LOL both brilliant as always Ian

And they are still digging.....but the most disappointing thing about the arts festival......on the last 3 trips to the creative quarter the majority of shops etc were closed......
