Hi guys, recently bought a softbox from FITP (who I'd highly recommend ) but I just can't get the thing folded right to fit in the bag!
I've seen the youtube videos and tried to replicate what's being done. Any tips on this? Is there a knack to it?

get it to a flat triangle then grab the bit where the flash goes (a point) then the middle of the opposite side and twist - straight to a ring for me :D

I cut my lip and gums because I was attacked by mine when I first unpacked it. I've never bothered to fold it since then lol. Have you got a link to the video in case i ever feel suicidal and decide to fold it up?

I too live in fear of mine! lol Had a few injuries in the process of trying to fold it.

Do you push it down or just simply twist it?
Also does it stay together once you've folded it or do you have to shove it in the bag before it pops out?

push a little and twist, I then hold the cyliundrical shape together before zipping up the bag

Get it flat, then grab the middle of the shortest side and the corner opposite it and then twist your hands in an opposite direction to each other. It should just twist round into three and a circle. Hold it flat put it in bag then make yourself a cuppa for a job well done.

LOL I had fun with mine and even more fun with the reflector, dare I use it??

Tried and tried, but still no joy...

Mine has got slightly mishapen so I think I'm gonna stop before i cause any serious damage :shake:

I've never folded mine primarily for fear of this happening.

I'll have to put up an easier to see video at some point.

I have no problems breaking mine down and getting them back into their pouches now, although getting them out in the first place still poses some risk. ;)

But don't you fins that when you set them up they are a bit wonky I.e. not square shape on the front, instead more of a diamond?

lol! the same thing happened to me.. the difference was i had to open it at the post office for security check and the softbox attacked me... in front of lots of people!

Not really. Once that diffuser's on the front, it squares it out pretty good.

Got my softbox from Flash In The Pan on Monday, (once again, Great seller!)

Didn't expect it to open as violently as it does. as a result the dog now HATES it. never seen a dog jump so high before running from the room and then growling back in from behind the door frame.

going to have to do some more practice before trying it in front of 'clients' though... usually takes me 3 tries to get it back in the bag...

Thankyou for posting the link to the video.
Watched once, then could place this in the bag!

LOl - I am not alone then! ;-)
I bought a big background too and that takes two people to fold. First time out of the bag it nearly took my daughter`s head off ;-)

Sounds to me it is a similar technique as folding a reflector... Thumb and forefinger grip with both hands and twisting and pushing the hands together.

I twist The left hand thumb towards me, and the right hand away...

Leave it up .......... use it as an sunshade when weather is good ..........

Thanks to the wonderful world of talk photography, i can fold my softbox after trying for ages! Easy when you know how! :)

No doubt i'll be referring back to this thread when i next crack it open! :(

The easiest way is leave it up.:p:D:lol:
