Hi

Can any one suggest a good quality, preferably not too expensive, folding 120 camera that, preferably gives 6x6 or bigger images. I got hold of a Mamiya 645 kit but is is so big that I just can't be bothered to lug it around if I am just popping out. No problems with buying second hand (I imagine that there aren't too many new ones of this sort of cameras made nowadays).

there are no new 120 mm folder camera made. I think the last one was made 40 years back, if not earlier.

Whats your budget

Zeiss made a whole range of them; both RF and Non-RF variety.

I have used Signal Nettar; its a cheap camera with a nice lens. But has no RF. Price is around 20£; easily found on the e bay.

The best folder is supposed to be Ikonta with a RF; but pretty expensive 150£ ish.

Some one was selling a Moskva on the sales ( or may be the wanted ) section. Is a copy of the ikonta and is reputed to be a reasonable camera. But its russian, so quality is very spotty. I think he was asking for 50£, which is in the ballpark for the price ( asuuming it works all fine)

That said, I doubt if any of these are really pocketable; though certainly smaller than a SLR.

Edit : I just remembered that CV was talking about introducing a new folder camera this year. Can remember if it was a 35mm or 120 format or even both. It was supposed to be with a RF and a lightmeter. Got to find out if it was ever released

I might consider £150 if the quality was good. I am looking at an Ensign 820 at the moment - do you have any experience with these? I gather that the Zeiss etc are quite a bit more expensive and quite like the idea of a 9 by 6 negative.

Fuji GF670 is a new folder, albeit 6x7, it'll be dear though, it might carry a Voigtlander badge but the Fuji is much nicer..:)

Mamiya six, Certo 6, Super Baldex, are decent 6x6 folders but they'll all be knocking on a bit.
I think Super Ikonta do a 6x6, not sure if the rangefinder is coupled or not..

if you can lower your sights to 4.5x6 you will likely have a wider range...

Voigtlander Bessa III -- not sure it meets the not too expensive requirement though

Try the Real Camera Co on Dale Street -- they should have some folders in stock.

Probably best to pay a little more and get one from a dealer so you know the shutter doesn't need cleaning, etc.

That Fuji is fantastic. How much is the going price for it, Joxby?

ummm...est £600 pre-release at photokina last I heard.
could be anything now with a Voigtlander badge.

I gotta say, £600 seems like a very saleable price..:)

I was just reading acs's Rob White link to the Voigtlander Bessa 3, which is an all black Fuji GF670, and they shoot 6x6 or 6x7 via a switch.....bonza !
Its £1650 though......

Thanks for all the comments. I had a look in the Real Camera Co a few days ago - the prices tend to be on the high side but I suppose it is worth it for a camera that actually has a guarantee, if only for 3 months, with it.

I was after a Mamiya 7 system but in the end couldn't justify sinking £1k-£1.5k into a camera that I wasn't going to use a great deal. I might keep an eye out for a decent Mamiya 6 though. The new Fuji looks fantastic - I might get one in a few years when the second hand price has come down!

Just noticed a Olympus Six - folding Scale finder camera in MWClassic for 55£. It takes both 6X6 and 6x4.5. I am sure it works fine - MW is pretty reliable. You could give it a try...

well - I've just plumped for a Voigtlander Perkeo I, nothing fancy I know, but i'll give it a try.

For heaven's sake Ujjwal, stop pointing out interesting cameras to buy:bang: I'm trying to save some money:lol:

Man, i've been bored today - couldn't get out to shoot, so resorted to documenting the new folder...

It's BY's new Perkeo 1 Ujjwal, and very nice it is too!

I just "acquired" a Coronet (Rapide I think) as a by-product on a deal for a Canon Demi...

you guys are obscene....showing off your lovely 'assets' :)

I am thinking of completely restructuring my collection - its become haphazard and unwieldy.
