Love the puppy shot but I am afraid that this weeks "shoot" does nothing for me - sorry. Know nothing about studio shooting so would not know if it is good or bad, so cannot comment.

Thanks Briony

 still shooting puppies i see, I like the way she is lit but the shaddow is a bit too imposing for me.

not keen on this weeks. It seems very dark on the right.

Good shot for this week, I presonally would have preferred it if the right hand side was just a little lighter

Cheers, there seems to be a running theme on the shadows being a little heavy. So ....:D

Amazing idea and shot Scott

Missed your quad week . . . but what an absolutely adorable puppy
I can't say anything else about it . . . he's just gorgeous and you've caught the moment perfectly !

Shoot : Brilliant concept and well executed.
I have to agree with the harsh shadow comments though . . . sorry :(
So nearly there, but just a touch too harsh.

My other suggestion would have been to get her to hold the rifle just a tiny bit higher in the frame. I think you've cropped at just the right place on her legs but I'd prefer not to have lost the bottom of the rifle.

Another one for dark shadows but really like the idea and the pose so the shadows are a bit of a shame.

Bang on theme.

Hi Scott,

Catching up again for me...

Produce: Wonder what you thought about Panorama as a monthly comp subject for April. This is a stunning image and who cares about crowbars! It's a lovely vista and would probably look great as a wall canvas.

Quad: Cute pic of a cute dog... For me, moving the dog from centre frame might make it a bit more pleasing to look at.

Shoot: The description helps certainly, but it's not doing a lot for me. I'm wondering if it's composition that's bothering me. Quite a bit of space above the model, and chopped off at the knee. That could well be me though as I'm no expert on studio stuff! Also, bodies don't interest me that much...

Another +1 for the shadows, for which I apologise :)

Ian.

Thank you Sarah, I can't take too much credit for the concept of 'shoot' as it was set up by Gary Edwards at his studio for a light workshop. I think I was paying more attention to the shadow above her when I cropped and didn't notice the rifle butt chopped off.

Thanks Ian, the competition was a bit :bang: for panoramic. Never apologise for your views they are all valid.

Had a few ideas as normal but nothing inspirational. Had a walk round the Lakeside Saturday with my wife and daughter letting my daughter have a play with my newly aquired S5 Pro. Noticed this fella on one leg......so here is my take on single.

A single Duck standing on a single leg..........Groan!

That really made me laugh.

Great moment to capture and the duck is lovely and sharp - right down to the twinkle in his eye.
It's a shame that the lake behind him is slightly blown out. Even though it's out of focus, it would be nice to have a little more detail there.

heh heh.. it does think its a flamingo :) great spot scott.. made me smile.. agree with sarah about the water behind but still, its a character posing away for you there!

That's a good balancing act!

Nicely caught

Cheers Nick, I kind of wanted to push him over :D

Well spotted! Perhaps he thinks he is a flamingo?!

He was very good.

It was lovely evening sun for most of the lake except this spot :bang:, so the water was sacrificed to meter for Daffy.

great capture Scott, how long can he keep it up though before he's a sitting duck!

Oh the pain of the pun :D

A great take on the theme Scott, lovely detail in the image. I hear what others have said about the water but it doesn't really detract from the duck at all, the composition and colours make it stand out. Well done Iain

Dude, I'm griining from ear to ear, it's a classic. I thought they only did this in winter when their feet got cold !!!

Nice, it's been said before but great capture! I'm sure you could stand there pointing the camera at it for ages and never get that shot again...

Well done!

Nice shot. Lovely composition and well caught with the balancing act.

I'm not that bothered about the background. I think it draws attention to the head, but I'm not an expert!

He does look like he's posing and you're lucky. That's a well timed capture.

Our ducks like to stand on one leg quite a bit but you're right. It does seem more prevalent when it's cold ground.

 a great idea and it works well... good shot Scott

Bit of catching up to do!

Quadruped: Ahhhh,:love::love: I like how he's nuzzling up to his bowl, too. :)

Shoot: First off - if this is your first studio shoot, I think it's brilliant. :) I agree that the shadows on her left are harsh - but that creates the drama of the shot - together with the shadows cast behind her. It also helps to keep it out of the payboy category and firmly in the nude art category (imho). As for cropping the stock off the gun - I don't think you had much choice. If you had cropped lower you would have had to make it full length, thus losing some of the impact of those shadows. If the model had held the gun higher you would have found yourself back in centre-fold land.

My only issue is with the .... I was going to say 'full frontal' pose - but you know what I mean! :) I think you could have got even more impact by getting the model to turn slightly to her left to suggest that she was just about to take aim.

So - definitely  for me, whatever the theme was. :D

Single: Hehehe - we certainly can't complain about lack of variety in your thread. Very well spotted and captured. I love the expression - he looks like he's smiling. :D

Thanks for the catch up Jean, I do try to do something different.

Popped up To Whitby for the Gothic weekend. First of all because the wife says I never take her out :D second and third was I needed a Panoramic for this month competition and also something for this weeks 52.

Here is my Stare, a very beautiful lady. I've added a second with slightly more contrast and a boost to her LIPSTICK!

Nice take on the theme but her lipstick is annoying me:lol: lovely hair colour and very sharp and clear

Very attractive lady there Scott. I agree with Briony though - she needs to reapply the lipstick. :p

Really like this portrait for stare! I keep wondering if it would be even stronger with slightly more dof, but then the background might distract from the subject. The clarity on the bits that are sharp is very appealing.

Thank you.....Lipstick? it's the style

Another for the lipstick.....You have to see h in the flesh it does work.

 make up critics are out. She has a captivating stare there so well done on fitting the brief perfectly. She looks like the new hot Dr Who's assistant.

Captivating Oh yes, I think I have a dozen shots of her with some fantastic eye contact.

Nice one, Scott. Fits the theme perfectly. I agree about the lipstick.

Jenny

 ......Thanks Jenny

Brilliant shot with a definite 'stare'. I love the eye make up, and thought I'd mention that instead of wishing she'd reapplied her lippy (or left it off all together!)

Definitely meets the theme in an eye-catching way! :D ;) :)

Jean

Thanks Jean, the eye make up is very eye-catching.

Cheers Phil, I have another of herhere

Love 'single' - very good, and 'stare' works well too. Well done!

Thanks Dave

I like stare - as above not keen on the lippy !

Leave her lippy alone.......it is Goth you know! Thanks

Love your Single shot and Stare works really well. Very well lit and her eyes really draw you in

#2 gets my vote Scott. As has been said above, the young woman's eyes certainly draw the viewer in. A sharp image with lovely rich colour and a very photogenic subject. I had a look at your other images from your day out, for them too. All round great set. Iain

Spot on mate.

Really nice image for this theme. Must have been a good day out for togging.

Has anybody mentioned her lipstick though? :coat:

Thank Iain, can't wait till halloween my daughter wants to dress up now.

Cheers, it s a great day out for togging although some of the togs can be a little selfish :shake: it was a bit dog eat dog at times and some of the subjects were swarmed on.

Hi Scott,

Had a shufty at your other shots and this is by far the best for me. Shame to read about the tog behaviour in your thread. Sounds like things have changed a lot over the years.

Anyway... Critique! Lippy? Not for me really. It's only subtle, but it comes across on my monitor as a bit blotchy. (Also thre's another "unavailable" picture posted in the thread??)

You've nailed the crop though, and the sharpness is nice and sweet on the eye where it counts.

Lovely!

Ian.

Thanks Ian, the shot isn't cropped its how I framed it as I found the 70-200 perfect for most of my shots. Not sure about the unavailable as I'm using my phone at work and I can see all of them.

Saw this shot earlier on the whitby thread, liked it then and like it now.

Great detail in the eyes and good use of DoF.

Dan

I can't see the second pic either, but I do like the one that's there.
You've caught some great detail in her hair and her eyes are stunning. Absolutely spot on for this week's theme.

And the lipstick?
I don't like it, but I think that only applied in the middle look is a deliberate goth fashion choice so who am I to criticise?

If I have one complaint, it's that the DoF is just a touch too narrow. Where you have that softness along the side of her face up to her ear, her jawline is merging into her neck. Not a great look and I'd like a bit more definition there. It also seems a shame not to be able to see her earring more clearly.

p.s. I notice from some of the other comments that you have some more shots from Whitby up.
Linky???? I'd like to have a look :)
