What a brilliant shot! Well done!

Wow, as you say striking, i hope i can match this shot.:)

I thought mine was bad . Cheers

Cool shot, Scott! You can really see that reaction happening right at the edge of the burn.

Thanks Dean, had the idea pretty much straight away and it wasn't that hard to do.

That is one "HOT" shot.

Thanks Briony!

i think thats really good, and can imagine that it was quite a tricky shot to get

It was a little tricky on my own, match stuck into a potato pre focused and struck match with one hand while other hand steadies potato and fires shutter release. It also helps that the burn of the matches was fairly slow....ish!

That's great, I tried to do this and failed miserably. I couldn't get focus and then always missed the strike point. I suppose the lack of working remote release at the moment didn't help, grrr.

Very, very well done!

Thanks! a good shutter release(wireless) is essential!!!

What a brilliant shot! Well done!

Cheers!

I knew I should have done the match thing earlier, drat. Superbly executed Scott ;)

Well done on this image Scott, I too chose matches and I didn't find it easy at all. You have nailed the focus and metering on your image. I like it:thumbs:

Thanks Alby!!!!! :D

Great shot. I had the idea of striking a match but no idea how to get the shot so well done.

I'm glad I got mine done first

you must need good timing to catch that just right.

It's all about fps!

Thank you, I thought about it all week and nailed it within 10 mins :D

Damnit - that's one of my ideas right out of the window.

To be fair though - you've nailed it

Cheers Nick...... the Lakes are getting close now yipppeeeeeee!!!!!!

Loving week 10! You've done a really good job with that one....

Been trying not to look at too many "Chemistry" shots as I still haven't decided on mine yet! :shake:

Very well captured and looks great. Was one of my ideas until I realised I had neither any matches or a macro lens :) The ignition is spot on, but I particularly like the detail and lighting on the match head and body. Great job

excellent scott.. great timing and focus, agree the detail on the match is spot on!

I had to buy the matches :D this 52 is getting expensive. Thanks

Thank you Michelle!

Spot on timing Scott

Cheers Pete

WOW !!

My fave so far (don't get too excited yours is only the 8th thread I've looked at ;))

It's amazing, no really it is. I hate to think how may times you had to try this in order you knew what setting to use - kudos to you.

Thanks John

Wow!!!!
That's impressive. Absolutely pin sharp on the match and timed to perfection

So own up - How many did you actually have to strike before you got that one? ;)

:D 6 matches in all and 6fps on the D300.

Excellent shot - love the detail on the match head as the chemical reaction taks place.....absolutely 100% on the theme!

Brilliant - great exposure and timing. I'm impressed that you only needed six matches (and didn't set the house on fire )

Fantastic detail in this shot, Scott. I really like it. :)

The texture on the match head is awesome, and :clap::clap: - 6 fps or not, getting the timing right on a shot like this isn't easy. ;)

Jean

Thanks Jean!

Nice exposure and detail in the match head.

Cheers!

Thanks, did it in the kitchen :D

I know a lot of people are not comfortable doing street stuff, I know I'm not. For now I'm going to rely on a couple of shots from a visit to York late last year, it was very busy with tourists so I didn't feel too out of place except I had a D300/Sigma 70-200 2.8 combo :D. I do have a fancy dress party at the weekend so I have a great chance to get some fun candids but the choice is camera or beer NOT both :nono:.

Decided not to drink at the fancy dress party as I'd never shot indoors like this before. The function room had a low enough ceiling to bounce my SB600, I chose the sigma 70-200 2.8 so I could shoot from a distance without interfering with the party guests.

Like the colour in the second but think I prefer the first, the reader really looks as if he is lost in his book

First one for me Scott - nothing wrong with the second though.

:gag: I can't stand beer. But since you don't mention it there, does that mean it's OK to mix wine and photography? :D

Funnily enough I really don't mind the prospect of going out and photographing strangers - it's just that candid portrait shots don't appeal to me that much as an end product . Having said that I honestly do like both of your candids a lot.
I've said this a few times already this week, but I think it's the fact that they look almost designed and posed - even though they're not - that really appeals to me.

If I had to pick one, it would be the fire-eater for me.
It's such a lovely crisp shot. Just the right amount of background blur - you can make out that there's a crowd there, but they just melt into the b/g and don't distract at all. I love that bit of hear haze and the glow inside his mouth from the flame too.

A couple of good photos there. I like the first one best because the man really didnt know he was being photographed whereas the fire-eater was sort of posing.

Thank you Sue :)

Thanks Sarah and yes all alchohol and photography doesn't mix well if you need to get the shots :D

I chose not to drink and managed to get a few shots without acting like a photographer(except I had a gripped D300 and Sigma 70-200 2.8 and a SB600 ), I was in sniper mode ;)

1st one for me, it's a doozy. Good lighting, near perfect backdrop and bang on theme.

All three are excellent shots Scott... I prefer the first one as candid, but that's a good job on your Nephew there.

love the one of the guy reading, nicely placed in the frame.. great detail on the building

Thanks John, first time shooting in a reception room/pub for my nephew.

Thanks Michelle, I knew when I spotted him it would make a great shot.

Hi Scott,

Really like Chemistry, but that 1st Candid stands out. Lovely lines in it, and great composition. Really like it.

Ian.

Apollogies first I haven't posted much recently due to the Lakes meeting I have just returned from but I will catch up.

Well the crow bar is I PRODUCED my first pano shot this weekend so here it is from the top of a small mountain looking over Ullswater with gale force winds from behind.

Catch up time tomorrow

How I'd love to live somewhere even remotely near a place like this !!

It's a lovely image and well done you on producing it.

Lots of crowbars being passed around this week but the shot is so fabulous that crowbar or not it well worth it.

Lovely menacing clouds and rolling hills, makes me want to go back there...

Got to agree with RobC, I'd love to be within spitting distance of somewhere as beautiful as that. Nice shot Scott.

Given my MASSIVE crowbar effort this week, I can't possibly comment on you fitting this one in

This is a beautiful shot though.
I don't know much about landscape photography, but that is some breathtaking scenery and if you've merged a few shots into that panorama you've done an absolutely seamless job
