It's almost like the evolution of man (apologies to whoever is on the left ;)). Nice capture, shame about the bright orange box, but I guess they wouldn't have held the pose and moved 6ft to the right :)

phew.. I was getting worried until the photo appeared ;)

thats a great shot scott (even minus their feet ;)).. I hardly took any of 'people' on that day.. missed opportunity methinks!.. hope there's another soon..

Thank you, I can just about remember the shot and it was framed to remove other distractions I think :D. Just looked at the exif 70-200 used at 78mm so couldn't go much wider.

Great stuff. Like this a lot :D

Cheers

Nice, clean, sharp shot with just the right amount of blur where it needs to be. Good one

Thanks Nick :)

The man on the left is a very nice chap :D. Cheers

I agree with Darren. I do like the nice blurred background too.

A am also amusing myself with the thought that the chap in the middle is taking a shot of the back of the guy on the right's head. Macro lens attached there? :)

Ian.

The people are nice and crisp with the background slightly blurred so you can see what it is! Top shot!!

Shame about the Nikons :) lol

JOKING :) :D

   I am NEVER going on a TP meet, if this is what it means. Seems like they're a good opportunity to get some Guinea Pigs for candid photography.

For a candid shot that's actually a really nice balanced composition - very accommodating of them to line up like that and the DoF is spot on.
Since you haven't got their feet in shot anyway, I'd be tempted to crop a little higher on the legs to make it look like a deliberate decision. Maybe just below the first guy's tripod bag.

Only one last thing to say - as I said on Briony's thread, you need to name and shame

Thanks Sarah, I will try the crop.

 my back up pictures included a 'member' shot too, but decided I was happy enough with my first choice. I do find myself desperately wondering what they are pointing their cameras at Scot, can you remember?

If you have a look in mich66's flickr in her signature for the Salford meet she has a cracking shot.

makes me wonder what they are taking a picture of.

Here you go

Very good Scott... that works well... DOF is spot on.

Now I see for your version you got behind the one in the middle and included his hat

Thanks John, the second shot is titled "Non-Professional shooting Professional"

My idea for this week was to use one of my bikes, tried a few different angles and in the end decided on a macro of a link. Here are a couple of choices. I'm leaning towards the first as I think the angle and lighting work better, but the second gets all the words in focus as it's such a narrow DOF.

3 As promised, reshoot with more dof and slightly different angle.

wow, both great shots, the 1st has a VERY narrow DOF, maybe if the focus was a little to the left, more on the writing it would be better??

#2 is a good DOF but i prefer the angle on #1

Great shot, number 2 for me with more in focus it tells me more showing the wear on the chain. I was thinking along the lines of digging my bike out but it would take a monumental clean and a bit of GT40 to get it usable.

thank-you, I will have another go at the first with a greater dof.

Well that's that idea out of the window :D nicely done Scott

thanks Alby, looking forward to yours :)

Same here!
I think I prefer the first shot, despite the slightly too narrow DOF.
The second one shows too much dirt, makes me want to clean it!

Having said, that my bikes chain is much much dirtier than that!

Too much dirt! nothing is clean when you go macro:lol:

And here's the exact dilemma I thought when I looked at both shots. As others have said, a greater DoF on #1 would make it the winner for me as it has good lighting and a nice angle.

The second shot doesn't do much for me I'm afraid. Would be interested to see a reshoot of #1 if you do it.

Ian.

Think I prefer#1, just. A bit too much DOF for me though, would have liked to have seen the whole wording sharp as per 2. 1 edges it on the angle though

Two good shots but the first is a clear winner for me. As already noted above just needed to get the writing all in focus, but otherwise the lighting is great and gives a really gritty (not dirty) image

It's already been said above including by yourself but just to add to the list, no.1 for me with a bigger DOF would have been a real winner.

Hi Scott,
Number 2 for me - I like the detail.

Thanks everyone, reshoot added.

Hi Scott i like the reshot - it has a good DOF plenty of detail and the framing of the chain links on the diagonal suits the shot.

I like the composition of #3 best. It's cleaner and neater. Nice shot!

Catch up time!

People: I like this - it's great to see tp-ers getting out in the freezing cold for the sake of their art. Seriously, well captured, and it's good to see what they were so intent of photographing.

Mechanical: Definitely #3 for me - I like the dof and composition and the monochrome-ness (?) of it.

Jean

Oh, I like number two! Maybe in landscape though but even in portrait it's still the best. They all remind me my own bike needs a going over and a turn outside though!

Thanks Paul, getting used to the lens now :D

I like the first one but would like a little more it to be in focus.

Thanks for looking

Nicely Shot Scott, well done

Cheers mate!

Thanks for catching up Jean, it's hard work with so many threads.

Much prefer the re-shoot - #3. Very nice image.

Thank you :)

I also prefer number 3. Very nice shot and bang on theme.

Jenny

Thanks Jenny.

Cheers Arthur, the third shot needed a good clean first as I had used the bike in between shoots.

Like this one Scott.........but whats with the twig for a tree:lol:

Cheers Pete, not sure about the twig comment though. Either I'm too drunk or you are .

the reshoot is fab.. didn't mind the DOF on the first one initially but think I was wrong on seeing your new version.. much better, and nicely framed.. great in B+W

Scott, #3 is the winner... spot on.
