Pretty seriously problem with the camera, the focusing screen is scratched and has made all the photos come out out of focus, even when in auto-focus and mounted on a tripod, i am dreading to think how much this will cost me to get it fixed. i have been looking online for quotes but can't seem to find none, what should i do about this? i was thinking about taking it back to jessops in the morning and asking them what i should do.

Has anyone had to do this before and if so how did you go about getting it mended?

Thanks, Tony

I'm trying to figure out how a scratched focusing screen can cause images to be out of focus when using auto focus

Jessops will just send it away for weeks. You could try Colchester Cameras - an offical Canon repair centre. How did you scratch the focussing screen?

I don't mind how long it is sent away just as long as it gets fixed

Dont panic. Not as bad as it sounds. Heres a tutorial on how to do it. http://www.focusingscreen.com/work/400den.htm

A new one direct from Nikon for a d300 is only about £3 so i wouldnt have thought Canon is any different?

Kev.

Thanks, but that tells me how to put it back in, i know how to do that just the thing is scratched

Loving the translations in the tutorial..... <P12>Beautiful don't harm mirror!! :D

Thanks mate, will look in to Colchester Cameras

Replacing the focus screen is fairly quick and simple but it's not the cause of your AF problems....the AF sensors get their image via a different path.
Are you sure it's the focus screen that's scratched and not the mirror?

I've just checked again and the camera seems to be focusing in AF and seems to be producing a decent picture when looked at on the computer but just the focusing screen is all scratch and for some reason now dirty
