Focusing in twilight

Hi. I have been photographing for a while , but still find it a problem to focus in twilight. Objects look fuzzy ( even when the focus lights indicating "correctly focussed" blink) Does anyone have any idea how to tackle this? I would greatly appreciate any help/suggestion.
I use a Nikon F65 with a tamron lens.

Have you tried foucussing manually? Sometimes the lack of light fools the af system
 
Could it be using a focus point you're not expecting?

Is ANY of the shot in focus?
 
Thanks for your reply Gary. I focus manually, and rarely use the AF system. Do you suggest i use it?

Most of the shot is out of focus. It has definitely something to do with the quality of light and not with the camera settings. ( At least thats what i think) I have tried changing settings and also different viewpoints. None of this has helped. Should i be trying something else. Different film perhaps? Quite clueless.

Twilight means not much light so you are in to larger apertures (which will show any lens weakness) and longer shutter times (which will show any movement). Do you have a note of what settings you have tried for these fuzzy shots? Using a tripod?

I assume the camera/lens is fine in good light. Might be worth taking a shot of test scene that gives you a focus target (like a fence post in a fence running at an angle to you) and seeing if the image focus point matches what you viewed.
 
The low light requires a wide aperture which means much less depth of field. This could be why your images are appearing to be out of focus.

Narrow aperture (eg f16) = more in focus - Camera>________!_____Subject_____!

Wide aperture (eg f2) = less in focus - Camera>________!_Subject_!

Do as RobertP suggests and shoot some test images.
Have the camera firmly supported ( on a tripod if possible ) to cut down on possible camera shake and photograph a target that has firm sharp lines.

The test images helped . However the images are sharp only when the subect has firm lines For e.g a fence or a pole. Other images , like grass or a field still look very blurred.
Camera settings F4 and shutter speed of 1/6.
