Hi All

Im very new to photography so still learning and will be for a long time yet!

Please can someone tell me in Lehmans Terms, what the difference is between One Shot AI Servo and AI Focus? I have used all three and I cant see any obvious differences.

what should I be using for what scenario

Any replies are much appreciated.

1stly the canon manual actually does a pretty good job of explaining.

But in brief:

One Shot - focuses when you half press the shutter. Holds that focus until you take the shot.

AI Focus - Same as above *BUT* if it thinks the subject has moved before you fully press the shutter it will adjust the focus.

AI Servo - Will assume a moving subject and will adjust the focus continually from when you half press until you fully press.

  • One Shot - For when both the camera and the subject aren't moving and aren't going to move.
  • AI Servo - For when either the camera, the subject, or both are moving - or may move.
  • AI Focus - All other situations.

Pretty much sums it up

The only thing I'd add, is I wouldn't use the AI Focus mode that much - either use the one shot or servo mode...
