You can't micro adjust focusing with a moving object

If your happy with them stop messing around looking for problems and take some non-test shots!

I'd never even start micro adjusting a lens unless I noticed an issue in real world usage!

Agreed, the whole point of micro adjusting is to have a reliable reference point to start off with. So without that, don't even bother trying.

also its a 3d target, so you might focus on a different part.

and the focus isnt always consistant either, whatever you have it set to

:agree:

+ focusing on reflections in the eye (a mini mirror) can throw the AF out.

Get a washing powder box and set it at 45 degrees to the lens and set it at lowest f stop and note the letter or spot it focused on and take a shot! Zoom in and see if it's sharp ..... If it's sharp in front its front focusing and if before spot it's back focusing ! Adjust accordingly and check

Easy, reliable target. Make sure camera is square-on, on tripod to ensure exact distance is maintained, focus on an area just to the side of the ruler, zoom in on LCD to see where the actual focus point is on the ruler. Don't test at too close distance just to make things easier to see, as it may actually make things worse at normal range - shoot at a 'realistic' distance. Check and re-check for consistent accuracy.

The cereal box and ruler works in exactly the same way as the targets in those links, and just as well.

The principle is this: flat target with bold graphics for the AF system to lock on to, square to the camera, so there is zero possibility of the camera (centre AF point) focusing on anything else.

It is often quite difficult to be 100% certain of when the target is optimally focused, so you look at the slanted ruler that shows you exactly where the point of sharpest focus is, whether it is in front or behind, and by how far.

Never said it didn't , just that some people would rather something designed for the job, than a Heath Robinson version :)
And at 99p you cannot really go wrong.

Now for some optivita & a cup of coffee

Though it might be better to print out one of your own than transport a piece of cardboard all the way from China. There are several places that you can download a PDF and print yourself if you don't like the cereal packet and ruler. Think of all that carbon! ;)

Edit: Lol - just seen this on that link: "14 days refund, buyer pays return postage"
