Yes
I have been messing about tonight with area focus modes tonight. I have three left middle and right

I have took the exact same picture without moving the camera or changing other settings except the focus point to left middle right

Although all the pictures look the same. So what does the focus point do as daft as it sounds ? As long as the camera has a focus point does it matter which one it is or does it affect the image some how ?

With a few exceptions depending on settings, the camera will attempt to lock focus on the selected focus point, which depending on the scene may render items under the other focus points in or out out of focus. Depending on aperture used you may not notice a difference.

Bingo! Just managed to reverse the blurry background affect by using a side focus point when the subject was central. Subject was blurred background pin sharp

Thank you for that

You may want to use a different focus point depending on composition.

For example, if you want to have the main subject in focus, but not central.

Keep experimenting!
