Focus on Imaging 2013 -Deals to be had?

I took advantage of the Zenfolio offer. 3 months use for £1

It'll give me chance to see what I think. Sometimes 14 days free trial just isn't enough.

Kev.

As for bargains: Well...I finally parted company with large sums of money for the following from Camera World:
- Canon 5D III: £2139 (inc £160 cashback) - inc. spare Canon battery + Lightroom 4......

Looks a good deal - wasn't aware Canon were running a cashback at the moment ? I presume the price wasn't an instant rebate (like in USA) so you'll claim this £160 back ...

Anyone spot George Williams sat talking to perou surrounded by displays of their photos? I said hello but he seemed a little preoccupied.

excuse the poor cameraphone image

is this offer available anywhere else do you know? ... I agree 14 days is not much time to really get to know the feature set.

Lencarta offering 5% discount on orders taken at the show or a great 10% if paying at the same time.
I took advantage and bought another EP300 head.
Some good deals at Viewfinder for bits & bobs, always like looking around their stand.
Bessel had a box of various fit flash head reflectors for a tenner each, great if you need one.

Just got back, loads of the usual, surprised how busy it was first thing.

I went on a weekday assuming it would be quieter, but as mentioned it seemed to be something of a pensioners outing to whom I seem to be invisible !

The models did attract large crowds as usual ...

An amazing, athletic male model/dancer on the photo training 4 u stand. Nice different touch that I thought
This also attracted a crowd, but strangely, not so many taking pictures !

Did anyone see the Harman Ilford pinhole cameras ?
Fascinating new twist on old technology.

Yeah, but then I saw the price.

Yes, it's back to the biscuit tin and tin foil !

Although you did get several packs of 5*4 film included - I guess it's Ilfords way of selling more film.

The three legged thingies did look good.

Only spent £20 odd, some sample papers and a blower.

I didn't find Lencarta.

It was lencarta's stand that sucked all my cash up, I bought a safari li-on kit with 1 standard head and 1 of the new heavy duty heads along with a 120 folding octa box.

What's the deal with these? Any details on it

It's basically an all alloy mini studio head rather than the plastic standard head. It's a little bigger in physical size but still remarkably light.....I'm going to weight it and my nissin 866, I doubt there's much difference !!!!

The important thing is the metal mounting collar, so using a large modifier like a 120 octa is no problem. :)

Hey,

Next year - how about a who's spent the most / least at Focus ?

Obviously for the least we would need to factor in travel costs (maybe divided by the distance in miles you live from the NEC ?), food, accommodation etc. as well as actual purchases.

I put this forward knowing it will have died a death by this time next year ...:'(

What were the prices for Zeiss and Tokina wideangles by any chance? I missed that completely

Sounds good .Cheers for the info!

Posted this in the other Focus thread as well, but there were definately deals to be had depending on what you were looking for. I managed to pick up a few bits as follows -

1. Olympus 60mm F2.8 Macro for £301 (at least £98 cheaper than online)

2. Perfect Photosuite 7 LR edition £89 (£115 online)

3. a bunch of Lee Seven5 filters to use with my OMD to replace the 100mm versions I had for my Canon gear (100mm versions the gradations are too large for the smaller lenses of my OMD) Haggled with the guys on the stand, got quite a bit of cash off plus the Joe Cornish (Lee) dvd and the new photobook2 thrown in for free!

All in all a good day and a lot of money saved! (and spent!)

i treated myself to a lee big stopper for £94, bargain! but was mostly to visit graphistudio and a few other suppliers for me. fantastic show (this was my first) but got so wound up with the cameras, and i saw the guy with pop up flash on the bowens stand to, he was there most of the day. very very sad

Picked up a reconditioned 24-105mm L series, they also took my 8/9 year old 17-85 off my hands for £150 meaning I only spent £440.

Very happy.

£30 on a Gorilla pod had a good look around but don't really need anything..:)

One of the best deals I saw was £1099 for Nikon D600's. I think it was stock that had come from Jacob's and Jessops.

My sum total £6.
£5 parking, £1 on a magazine. Fuel free, ticket free, shared parking and shared a magazine two pack. I still feel sightly shortchanged by the whole experience.

I managed to pick up a canon ef-s 15-85mm from Calumet for a good price so I'm pleased with that.

Thoroughly enjoyed the show. Far more than Mrs Y who was convinced I had wasted money on a 5D2 grip and a small studio lighting kit. Women eh? What do they know? ;)
