Focus on Imaging 2010

I did read a post in the thread that said this was the biggest show in Europe but I am afraid that title goes to Photokina which is held every 2 years in Cologne, Germany about September time and is due again this year. There are much smaller events such as the Photovision road shows and there is one due for Brands Hatch hich is in Kent.

The SWPP trade show will cost you £5 on the door I believe. ( Fri, Sat & Sun)

i thought i'd create a little thread for this years focus on imaging. what are looking for when you go?

im after allsorts of little things and i am lucky enough to get £200 to go and so im going to do some major spending. i might try and get an off camera flash cable, fold up softbox and see if i can get a second hand minolta 28mm f2.8.

more Mp in a bridge camera
present level 4

a quick one....
what are prices like during Focus? same like in shops or bit cheaper?
is it worth to try to buy camera body over there ?

Registered and got Pass No: Get in cant wait.

we spend £2500 + last year on new camera kit and software
.
retail price in the shops at the time was over £4000.
research prices of the kit you want before you go.
then see who's offering the best prices.
were going sunday due to other comitments in the week.

Cameraworld and Jacobs were there last year. I use Sony so those were the only prices I looked at. Both had the A900 for £1500, at least £100 cheaper than cheapest non-grey import retail and Cameraworld had the 70-200 SSM G f/2.8 for £1080 - cheapest non-grey import retail was about £1200 at the time. Sadly my credit card wouldn't bear the cost of an A900 !

So there are bargains to be had but I didn't see anything expensive massively discounted.

This might sound a bit stupid, but you can buy on the day ? Never been before and dont know the set up.

Yes, Cameraworld were taking plastic money and I bought a few things, looked like a number of other stands were as well as lots of people were leaving with big boxes!

I've never been to a "Focus" before, I didn't know used gear would be for sale?

I was put off by the fact that I went to "The Gadget Show Live" last year and 90% of it was just like walking in to a giant PC World (except I paid for the privilege)! Is Focus on Imaging different or just a one-stop photographic shop?

I guess I'll mostly be looking at albums, and maybe some lighting stands. Really though I'm mostly looking forward to playing with the expensive cameras and lenses that I can't afford.

Depends on what you are looking for. Yes in many respects it is a large Photographic shop. However you often see things that you wouldn't see anywhere else . Sunday and Monday will be really busy. Tuesday and Wednesday are less manic. However most of the bargains ( if that's what you are looking) for have gone by then .

I want some Bowen light modifiers and a nice big Octobox.
Albums and photobook samples.
New wireless triggers
some extra batteries

I want the new TTL Pocket Wizards..... for my NIKON's!!

Not holding my breath though. Despite checking out the Canon version at Focus last year and hearing predictions for the Nikon versions Summer/Fall last year, the PW website now just says "The Nikon version will be available in 2010"

:shake::'(:shake:

Probably just odds and ends, unless Cameraworld have a CZ 84/1.4 or 135/1.8 for £750 or less! (or a bargain A900)

well for my official wanted list it is;

sony hvl f42am (possibly a minolta 28mm f2.8 but i can only have one or the other)
mini softbox
off camera flash cable
extra batteries possibly some rechargeables.

i actually regretted going last year because since i went ive been dying to go back there again, but when i went last year it was a last minute thing and i had no cash but it was fun though.

Don't think used gear IS for sale.

The show has a bit of everything. A couple of retailer stands where you can purchase kit plus all sorts of stands displaying albums lighting etc and of course the camera manufacturers stands displaying and demonstrating their wares. There is also usually a stand or two where you can take pics of the models.

Has anyone been on the Wednesday before? Any bargains to be had or like mentioned above, is everything gone by then?

Also, I know I'm being lazy but does anyone know the route by train from Waterloo? I'll probably head there and back the same day.

Cheers, I'll have to check out train prices, may even be cheaper just to drive.

YES! THIS! or even better, EU distribution of radiopoppers... :3

I'll be checking out some dye sub hire / sales stands, and software to go with them, may is going to be busy events wise, and umming and erring as to whether dye sub is the way to go, maybe picking up an eye-fi, those things look pretty neat (screw the £500 wt-4, for that much I'll just plug in a long wire...)

If you are looking at dye subs you might want to pop along to Photomart on the 25th Feb as they are having a Prom special and will be demoing a vast range of dye subs and you will probably have a much better opportunity to talk with real users.

Don't forget to take car parking costs at the NEC into account, can't remember off the top of my head what they are, but I know they're a complete rip-off!
