Focus 2009 - So you went, what did you buy?

I managed to stay fairly restrained, bought a Spyder calibrator for my computer-did it last night & I had no idea how far out it was, huge difference!
Wanted a Tamrac Expedition 7x, but nobody was selling any tamrac stuff that I was, so just had to resort to ebay. Came very close to a Manfrotto pistol grip tripod head, but managed to resist that (for now)
*edit* Jacobs had some pretty good deals on some LowePro stuff, not sore on the Bowens though, not really my 'thing' so didn't spend too much time looking at lighting kits for sale

Dell, there was a stand selling a used D300 + grip for £975 but I can't remember what they were called. It was a long stand with a lighting area to the left (model shoots etc) and gear on the right, they had about 4 slim, upright glass cases with some s/h stuff in them.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Hacker, that would be tempting because it's got the grip. But then again to pay £999 for brand new....I can always get the grip at a later date! [if I need it ]

Not been yet!

Going for the day on Wednesday with some mates from SWPP. To be honest there's not much that I need. Some dust aid strips, a video light and a rolling case would be on my shopping list along with some paper.

I'd love a 16-35mm but the credit card is staying at home!

See you Wednesday Ali! Probably bump into you at some point!

Couldnt see it at the price quoted  but then again I dont want to buy from someone with only 12 feed-back over last 12months either!

I'll have to change over to Nikon, I don't think my Canon kit will

 :D

i bought a R2880 printer for Jacobs for £449 came with a free trolley, woohoo. LOL.

Might go back Tue or Wed as i was impressed with the PermaJet ink supply for the R2880.

Was that you I saw wobbling all over the place trying to keep the printer on the rediculously small trolley wheels?:clap:

Got myself a Rayman ringflash adapter for a pocket money price. :D

Is that the one which clips onto your Speedlite and doesn't have it's own light? Is that any good? I did think about getting one for macro shots but refrained since I wasn't sure if it was as good as a dedicated ringflash?

I picked up a Canon 100mm f2.8 Macro lens for £379 from Jacobs (cheapest UK price is £430) so saved £50 there. Also bought the Viewfinder Photography studio background stand (4m x 4m) for £95. Nice and sturdy it is :)

Juat had a check and it looks lik the price this morning is no longer available - it was a direct from Amazon price - I guess it was a case of "snooze and you lose" :shake: - oh well

For those that have been was there anywhere selling monitors? I'm pretty much sorted for camera equipment (never thought I'd say that) but my computer monitor is probably the one bit of technology that lets me down at the moment.

Yep that was me, lol. Bought it as i was going home, it did fall off a few times,l ol.

I bought some software and a Photospeed paper sample pack.

Prices were not particularly cheap in my opinion, plus there seemed to be a shortage of freebies as well - times are hard.

The tip about the Boat,Caravan and Outdoor show parking was a good one though - saved me £8 (which just about paid for a sandwich and coffee).

Yup, thats the one. I had a play with the demo adapter they had & leafed through a book of example shots.
However, as they'd proved so popular, it means Im having to eagerly await the postman for mine as there wasnt a single one left by the end of the day!

I bought naff all, zip, nada.

I did really like some of the new view camera platforms for digibacks from Rollie and Linhoff and they had a really clean looking technikardan 5*4 for a grand that was very tempting.

The Dlux 4 was a surprisingly lovely bit of kit too. Very impressive at 800iso and even at £500, it's still worth considering.

I did that, parked in E4 when i came back the barrier was down and the attendant was in the office so I asked if it was £8 to park, he said which show have you been to , I said the outdoor one.

he looked at my 5D, focus badge hanging round my neck and bag full of paper and said er no it's free then so I shot out of the car park before he asked again :D

They were asking people which show they'd been to as they came out though

I have one and must say its only problem is light fall off at the bottom.

Its not that bad but is noticeable sometimes.

I thought I was being good and not spending but ended up on the Canon stand for to long looking at the 50D. In the end parted with £739.00 after cashback for a new body which I am well pleased with, given that WHE want £898 at present.

Just got back, got myself a B Grade 40D from Jacobs, bargin price :D, still factory sealed, just got it out and looks mint :D :D :woot:. Also got some Studio Lights.

Is it just me or does WHE seem quite expensive at the moment? I've noticed a few things more expensive than Jessops recently which seems totally back to front given their reputations.

i bought absolutely nowt, was a bit underwhelmed with the show really, mind you i wasnt really looking for anything, only went for the social side and meet up with people.

The girl in the schoolgirl outfit wasnt for sale either :(

For you girls out there - Did you notice the almost naked chaps going around with nothing on but a pair of small blue trunks  I kept walking past them and kept looking - Then hubby asked why were were walking round the same bit time and time again :D Then he noticed my eyes as I walked past yet another one  I enjoyed myself!!!!

We're going tomorrow and have a few potential items on the shopping list! :D Out of interest, did anyone see if there were any stands with Flatbed scanners for sale at all please?

I bought nothing, but got a free calendar and thing that goes warm when you squeeze it from think tank.

I was looking for a Carbon tripod, but i looked at the Manfrotto, the Gitzo and the Giotto(?)

I couldn't make my mind up so left empty handed!! lol..

I did look at lighting while i was there.. the new Profoto set, even if i had thoughts on the Bowens 500's! quite some jump eh!! anyway, didn't get them either!!

I bought a Canon 135mm f2 from Jacobs for £799, not bad compared to their website which has it at £929.00. They also had Pixma Pro 9500 at £379.00 and Pixma Pro 900 at £299.

I've been to the last 3 shows and i didn't enjoy this one as much. Sadly there was no AJ Purdy stall as they always had plenty of stock and good prices at the past 2 shows.

my mate brought an Olympus 8mp PS for £49 from Jacobs, opened the box in the car and found the rear screen was knacked took it back and swopped it ok

That's what I got last year. Never had a problem with it....best thing I ever did. Hope you have as much fun with yours.

Hope so, is mint, not a mark on it, great price and can get Cash back aswell, going to use it as a second body as already have a 40D. :D

I bought;
a Lowepro Slingshot 200AW
A Cullman2650 Tripod & a seperate hotshoe spirit level
A wired remote for my 450D
2 Memory cards - thought they were well priced at jacobs.
A magazine goodie bag for a quid which had a free mini tripod thing and a lens cleaner key ring in it, plus four magazines.

The tripod gave me the most trouble I didnt want to overspend as I'm still learning so wont use it a massive amount, but wanted to upgrade from what I had. Everything was too expensive but then I found the cullman and thought it was good. Like how it can have the camera on the bottom and has independantly moving legs, lol.

Was also going to buy a 5in1 reflector but thought they were overpriced so didn't bother.

I liked what I bought but didn't see too many bargains or freebies. Saw everyone with calanders but had no idea where they came from, lol.

I also loved the huge printers, thought it was like magic, lol

Cheers for that... Would appreciate a little opinion on it once you've had a chance to try out. It got a good review in one of the mag's a few months ago I seem to remember so I'm sure it'll be good for the job

Me and a mate went today, had a stroll, bought a book, had another stroll, had the craic with the people I needed to have a craic with, job done, laughed at alot of people, blown away by some of the work, shocked at some, saw some snippets of the tutorials, seemed good, saw one on light and was underwhelmed, finally met the guys at Aaduki, seemed cool - would I go again, maybe but only maybe.

If anyones there tomorrow I'm a first time focuser so I'll probably look lost, come say hi.
I'm short and will probably be wearing a dangly beanie hat, with glasses and i'll just be carrying my D80 body round with me. I'll also be with a girl who always wears black :P
