Yes
Noticed that my Nikon FM3A has a lens screwed into the eyepiece. I am thinking it might be a diopter correction lens? or could it be a normal lens with no correction? If it is a corrective lens what impact would this have on the images.

Unscrew it, it should be stamped on it if there is any correction.

It will be a diopter thingmy, yes. Unscrew it and look through the finder, then slide it in front of your eye without moving, that'll tell you if it's a 0 or not. It will make no difference to the final picture, only to what you see through the finder. I have one with no correction on most of my cameras just to protect the finder glass, much like a UV filter.

they are meant to have a viewfinder eyepiece in them ,as nick says unscrew it and have a look ,if it is a corrected eyepiece and you have eyes that dont need correcting ,i think that your focusing will be off ,( either way you still need one in there )

have just read Joe's reply and im not sure if you mean another lens over the actual viewfinder eyepiece lens or not now

dont forget the fm3a is a manual focus Joe .

Thanks for the replies. I took the eyepiece lens off and it has no markings so I guess it is not corrective. I was just wondering because my first film through this had a few oof shots but I guess it is just user error.

Why not post a couple of your OOF shots so we can see what may be going on.

Nono, I meant the eyepiece/diopter thing. I was being a bit confusing I think!

if it is a correcting eye-peice, and it's not matched to your eyesight, then the actual "viewfinder furniture" - i.e. any scribes/lines on the focusing screen, numbers or needles in the viewfinder will look out of focus with it in place. This is actually how you should adjust the viewfinder dioptre settings on a camera that has variable settings (like the dijikal ones usually have)
