Hi all

Well its Flying legends at Duxford this weekend.

I am looking at going down on the Sunday, but I have no ticket. It says tickets available on the gate. Does anyone know if they ever end up turning people away without tickets due to running out of them on the gate? I don't want to make the 2 3/4 - 3 hour drive then get turned away.

I know there is always the alternative of the naughty field but it'd be my first time at duxford so i'd like to go in and I'm taking my friend (a she) so not as easy for her to nip off in the naughty field for the loo.

Also, what is traffic usually like both for arriving and leaving at the end of the day?

I know there are plenty of you that go reguarly so i am looking for your advise in a Jedi like fashion!.... I'll be your Luke Skywalker, you be my Yoda!

Cheers all

Pretty good. I live 20 mins away and coming from the A14/M11 way (as you would I guess), I dont hit any traffic till the slip road for the junction. Normally spend a few minutes crawling on the Mway but thats it. I reckon it adds just 10 mins compared to a normal day. Typically thats around 11am.

Its a good day there, although easy to get burnt!!!

Cant help with your questions but i will be there on Sunday
Looking forward to it as its my first legends.
Will be at yeovilton on Saturday

Ahhh that's not too bad then. Im used to having queue a life time to get into cosford.

What's it like at the end of the day (traffic wise) when its over?

Yep, suncreem a must, especially as Im a ginge!

Leave at 5 ish normally straight after last display. Again, 10-15 mins to get onto m11

Get there early, a couple of years ago I went for display in September and they did turn people away, even those with tickets. The weather forecast is very good, so I'd expect a big turnout.

Enjoy the day and good luck shooting into the sun!

You should be okay getting there at that time, you might have to queue for a bit on the A505 or possible coming off the M11 if you are going that way.

As you are getting there early you should have some time to have a good look round. Enjoy the day and I look forward to seeing some of you work posted on here.

Doug

Thanks for that Doug :-)

Hoping it should be ok, aiming for a 6am set off so hopefully get me there in time. Never been before so hoping to get a look round to. May have to join in with the cheeky folk and lay down a blanket and chair to stake a claim!

Good luck with the cheeky blanket! What lens are you using as the crowd line is quite a bit back?

I will be sticking the 150-500 on.

Not decided if Im going far left, far right or middle yet.

I've heard left is good as you get good top side shots in the turns, but the right looks good for take off's.

But then the middle is nearest the cars and i suppose you get a bit of left and right when your in the middle.

You will be fine with the 150-500, I went there with a 70-300 and it was too short most of the time, however the crowd was that big that day I couldn't get anywhere near the front barriers. A lot of people stand on the mound at the end were the Land Warfare hanger is at the far end of the runway. I now have the 120-400 and find most of the time that I don't have any problems.

Was by there today and it was hot and very bright, the sun and light were harsh, make sure you've all got the sun cream and/or hats at the ready.
Even today the car park was full, might be an idea to get off at junction 10 on the M11 as theres a free park and ride running to the show.
Hope everyone has a great weekend there.
I put up a bit of a taster thread as there was a lot of activity today....
