Hi

Just wondering thoughts about a studio shoot idea I'm thinking about that uses fluorescent lighting sticks/tubes. I'm pretty sure I've seen them done many times before but can't find any photos or any guides as to what I should use? i think shutterspeeds mayneed to be thought about along with whitebalance etc.

Anyone done a similar thing or know of any links?
I swear FHM style shoots have done this along with T3 mag or Stuff. I wanted to achieve a similar style but can't even find any photos on the net.

any ideas?

as props or as actual lights - seen the cold tubes used as props but they aint powerful enough to use as lights

used as props from memory...

(I did stumble across one where they used them as actual lights and the catchlights produced were very strange)

any ideas of what types would be suitable for props?

How about something like this: http://biSPAM/2UXst5

I used to have a couple of handheld coloured 4ft tubes that had the control gear mounted in the handle, but no idea where they came from.

I'd avoid buying a conventional striplight and trying to modify it - the voltages flying around are quite high!

I use fluorescent lighting in studio as backdrop product.
You need high frequency control gear to minimise strobing and thus exposure variation.
5500K is a good straight colour, doesn't need much wb fiddling.

Hi oli

Check out the Kino Flo fluorescent lighting systems.

http://www.kinoflo.com/

They are primarily designed for motion picture and TV production and therefore expensive. However, I am sure there are stills photographers out there playing with ‘domestic’ type setups.

Good luck

Hi

can you give me more information where I could purchase this lighting setup?
I am interested to know more as it is most likely the way we'll be taking it.

thanks

Any more ideas or suggestions?

I've seen some shots (somewhere) with their subjects holding these fluorescent tubes... can these be wired up with a normal mains plug on one end?
