what do you use to host your photos and why?

i currently use photobucket, but sometimes think it takes the quality out of the photo, i may be wrong but has anyone else experienced this?

anyway, im looking into using a different host so can anyone recommend one as there seems to be so many

regards wes
:D

I use flickr but I think that also take some sharpness away during upload. I have never been able to get an photo on flickr to look as sharp as it does just before upload. :suspect:

I use flickr mostly now I have a pro account - but I also occasionally use Pix.ie.

I use Pix.ie.

I used to be a Photobucket user, but it definitely took some of the image quality away and seemed to be getting worse. I also found the upload times to be excruciating!!!!!

Not a fan of Flickr - I can't stand all the rankings / ratings / groups etc on there. It's like the photographic equivalent of Facebook

Pix.ie seems pretty good to me. Loads of free storage space, really fast uploads and there doesn't seem to be any major problem with image quality. Gets my vote anyway.

I use Smugmug. I don't do any of the 'social' stuff by putting my photos into groups or anything though, so I can't comment on that.

I went with Smugmug as I was looking into something which could hold more photos than the free version of Flickr, and also something that offered some privacy settings for family photos.

Smugmug will allow unlimited uploads of different formats (not Raw though), which can be organised as you like, and you can hide galleries and set passwords, so I can post pictures of family, e-mail them the URL and the password so pretty much only they can view the images (obviously, there is potential for hacking, but for most searches, nothing will come up)

take a look: www.smugmug.com

use imageshack for anything under the 200Kb level
and recently using flikr for full size..but didnt know there was a problem with sharpness

looks like i need to give pix ie a chance..NOW!!

I use Flickr to host sharing stuff for forums etc. and use zenfolio for high res stuff where people can see my stuff at it's best.

your thoughts between them?

i think smugmug looks the best, although its a pain in the butt to link IMG codes??

anyone else's thoughts on which is better?
:)

a toss up between smugmug and pix.ie
since i have only signed up for pix instead of imageshack...i would go for the pixie just now
smugmug i know nothing about...but am pleased so far with pixie

I use flickr and use the sets on my website, makes it easy to update my website then as i just have to put the picture into the set and its on my site :)

www.tyler138.com if you want a look, still sorting some of it out mind you.

why do you use hosting that degrades or does anything to your picture? YOU should ahve full control over quality output and size ect... I use fotopic.net and i get to control everyhting...

I store, show on flickr, but host links 800pixel photo's to here from photobucket.
2 Photobucket accounts and flickr pro.

I wrote my own photo software about ten years ago. This was before any of these photo sites... I just need something simple and easy to use and all the sites mentioned have too much mess on them.

Another couple of plusses of my own software is that I have no storage limit and no-one messes with my photos...

is ther a site (like photobucket) where you can see your gallery and under each thumbnail theres a quick link?

as the other site above are a pain in the bum to link pics from especially if your linking quite a few at a time??
