I've already had previous emails and did a few things to accept and activate my account for this licensing program. It was going to get to a point where 'a curator' was going to review which images they wanted to make available. I was surprised at the length of the list and their selection - I haven't been through them all, but they've gone back quite far in my collection. I'm guessing everything about this process is automated.

I'm not sure if I really want to proceed at this point, so I just wondered if anyone had experience with it or opinions?

Cheers

Hi dancook1982,

Thank you for enrolling into the Flickr licensing program. We can't wait to make your photos accessible to a variety of opportunities in the global marketplace, including wall art and various distribution channels. Let's get started!

The following links represent photos we have selected from your photostream that we would like to invite into our non-exclusive licensing program. You will retain the copyright to these photos, but once opted into the program, they will be eligible for licensing.

Please review the list below and email us a confirmation by Flickr mail to approve submission into our non-exclusive program. If you would prefer to only approve a portion of these photos (for example, if some are already licensed with Getty Images), you can still send us confirmation by Flickr mail, but include only a list of the links that you wish to enroll!

Please be aware that, once we receive your approval, we may be in touch to request releases for identifiable people or property or hi-res, non-watermarked scans if applicable.

Don't hesitate to reply to this email with questions or visit the FAQ at http://www.help.yahoo.com/kb/flickr/SLN24532.html.

Thank you,
Lauren

The original flickr mail details about receiving 51% of net sales

We love your photos! Your beautiful and genuine photos could be in high demand in today's global photo marketplace. We want to work with you to increase the visibility of your photos across multiple platforms such as wall art, photo agencies, editorial placements on Flickr and Yahoo, and other media outlets.

If your photos are selected and sold in the marketplace, we will share 51% of the net sales with you through your PayPal account. There is no fee to join and you control your level of participation.

To learn more about our licensing offering and accept our Contributor Terms of Service, visit https://www.flickr.com/marketplace/join/.

Once we receive notification that you have enrolled, our curatorial team will select photos from your photostream and be in touch to see which ones you would like to approve for inclusion in the new Flickr Marketplace!

Don't hesitate to ask us any questions. We look forward to working with you!

I guess it's not such a great deal if they charge very little for images, so individuals get very little whilst they sell millions and rake it in.

They're just trying to make money off their content. So long as they demand no exclusivity of the work, or ask you to relinquish copyright or moral rights, then give it a go. I can't imagine it earning you much though. Stock is on it's arse. Just too many images free to use, either legally or otherwise to convince people they need to pay for such imagery any more.
