Hi Guys

Any other flickr users out there with BT mail accounts?

I've got a note at the top of the screen saying i need to migrate over to a different yahoo account away from the BT one, does this mean the end is neigh for the free flickr account to BT customers?

I have BT Total Broadband, BT mail accounts, and a free Flickr Pro account, but have not received any such info.

However, the subject is being discussed on another forum, so I suspect its a case of there being 'no smoke without fire'.

I'll watch this space. :)

Dave

I'm BT broadband etc, it's a huge blue banner across the top of the flickr screen telling me I either have had or will have some form of contact from BT about it. Had nothing as yet though

The free Flickr Pro account is going when BT transfer from BT Yahoo to BT Mail. You will need to set up a Flickr free account with a separate ID and transfer your existing content to the new account.

The downsides are the new account will :
  • have ads both for the account holder and viewers
  • be limited to 1Tb
  • have no stats !
Although Flickr have not offered any new Pro accounts for some time it will be possible to upgrade your new free account to a recurring Pro account for $25 a year. I understand the method for doing this is not very clear.

Already merged mine back to a yahoo ID I had :( it's a shame but was always going to happen

This thread was started earlier...

And Ricardo you suggested it last year, this is the current situation now no need to worry about last year on a thread that was about the changes to Flickr

I've just migrated it, luckily the yahoo mail account I had from years ago when I started on there was still in service, but cripes.... don't they make it hard work to change !

I had a secondary email from my hotmail account connected to it and until it was removed, it wouldn't let me change and then when that was deleted the screen confirming it is actually back to front telling me i'd connected my btinternet account with flickr

i don't think i'll miss the stats, which was the only reason for being pro

I found it a bit of a kufufflae to change too took me a little bit of time to work it out as it kept redirecting me to log into my BT email

Migrated all worked, but I liked my stats, not many views but felt nice to know the photos were looked

Oh well, 0.5% of 1TB used so don't need to worry just yet

I'm sure the stats were fabricated after the last change they made, my image views went up ten fold without adding any to groups etc.

I must admit I noticed a massive surge in views also, I also noticed that I was getting far more views via Flickr I suspect that because it had moved away from thumbnails with the new version of Flickr if a page loaded with yours and of course maybe dozens of other photos of it still counted as a view even though your photo may not have specifically been viewed...I came to this view from the fact that where I used to only get a few Flickr search views per day on the old look, in the new well over 50% of my views came via search

Personally I liked the stats, it gave me an idea as what photos people liked, I am never going to be a pro photographer but it was my way of gauging if my pictures were being appreciated, I for one shall miss them.

I had no issue with the migrate, just went back to the yahoo mail address I used before BT .
I've been using the bt email for 18 months now but for some reason it says my pro account will run out on the 28 February, and I can extend if I want ( which I don't, but will miss the stats)

Anyone else had an email about being able to buy a paid pro account? After coming of the BT free pro account

Not a thing yet Matt, still the blue band across the top of the page, and I have not yet decided what to do.

Yes, had the flickr mail telling me my pro account expires in 30 days............. wonder where my stats have gone then ??????

Its certainly not worth 15 quid to lose some tiny adverts and see how many people haven't seen my images :D

I had an email and a Flickr mail about it, to be honest the only reason for keeping up a paid pro for me is the stats and for the about 1.20 a month it would cost I'm happy enough to pay for it lack of adverts is also nice

See for me it is

Can't see the point in the stats, they are blatantly inflated and what's the deal with views from unknown sources....???? surely they know where the view came from !!!!

I'm honestly in two minds, I really want stats, but that said right now I'm not posting nearly what I was to Flickr, in fact I plan a bit of a clean up soon to hide some of the stuff I no longer want on view as it were, I think that I'll have a look if there is any functionality I get with pro that is not there on the free version and then make my decision from there....

Pro gives more space and allowance for up to 200mb single file upload, as removal and lies (stats)

Was just looking it sounds like from reading it that staying pro doesn't really have all that many advantages, the only thing I've not really been able to clarify is the ability to control who can access the larger versions

Matt, if you add "/stats" to you photostream link it will bring up the stats anyway.
I decided not to go down the paid route as I doubt I'll ever fill the 2tb space

Cheers, I'm not sure that I'm going pay if I'm honest as I'm not sure ill be able to justify it for just stats :)

ingrid .....im thick, what you talking about hun :D

PMSL Brian I'm sure you're not really ;)

I'm a bt user and have a free flicker account, got the notification and to be honest don't really need the pro account so have opted for a free one and
conveted mine accordingly.
On the free account drop dow menu there is not longer an option to view stats to see how man people have looked at your pictures
so to get to you just type in "stats" after the web address as in red below, and you can still access them
You still get a 2TB allowance

Well that worked a treat flower, I wonder how long it will continue to work for.......or has it always done it?

Dunno, someone pointed it out in the other thread, so I tried and it worked

Has anyone noticed that this back door to checking viewing stats has been closed?

Typing stats now just gives me an error page and shows me my last uploads.

I think you retain your Pro privileges for 30 days after you migrate your account. This gives a window to transfer the Pro account to a paid grandfathered account at the cheaper rates.
Looks like your 30 days have elapsed. I've migrated my account and the stats are still working for me but the 30 days isn't up yet.
