Flickr "pro account" is it worth it?

I have only been on Flickr for a relatively short time, and only really did it to post images on here occasionally. I now have around 180 images, and a message has flashed up asking whether I want a "Pro account".
Now call me cycnical, but since the message, I seem to have received quite a few views on some of the older images (which I do not particularly rate very highly), which will be hidden from view when I get beyond the 200 mark in order to appear again once I pay my fee.
When I say quite a few views, this is an example: A Zenit camera which had a couple of views a few days ago now has 30 views, and I would say it is one of the least interesting images on there. A Carl Zeiss lens which had no views, now has 67 views.
Has this happened to anyone else, maybe just as they were hitting the limit to switch to a pro account?

I think a 'pro' account is very cheap really. I don't have one yet, but I've only just gone over the 200 photos, so i'll get one on payday. I didn't notice any viewing spikes - views seem to be directly related to how much I advertise my account/sets.

Do you advertise your flickr much? Use tags on your photos?
 
Very much worth it if you wanted unlimited storage and no bandwidth limits :) The community is good but the addition of very cheap online storage of images is also very good :)

Saying that mine is about to expire and I did wonder if there was better out there now. I don't think there is though.

(P.S Pro is free if you have BT Internet)
 
Flickr is going to be my online remote backup, I will just make a very very large number as private.
 
I've had a Flickr pro account for about four years, very cheap for what it is imo. I mainly use it as others do as an online backup.

Flickr itself isn't perfect in terms of interface etc, but its still better than anything else I've come across. The community is great and there are always new websites and bits of software appearing that expand the experience.
 
To be honest, at £16 a year it's a bargain.

You can put as much as you want on there and it keeps them at a very high quality.

So it's just over £1 a month...

Forgot to say, Flickr is already a good site, and it can only get better.

Not really! .... You can upload tiffs to flickr :cool:
 
ALso, if your just doing photography as a hobby and not commercially, then it's a great place to share your work.

It's used by all types of photographers to display their work actually :)

Go upgrade that account!

My paid-for pro account expires next week so have been trying to set up a BT e-mail account (I'm a BT phone and broadband user) that I can change to so it gives me it for free but can't get it to work. I take it we're talking BT/Yahoo e-mail accounts - I can't seem to find a way to set up an email ending with a BT affix.

Yes, you can have up to 10 btinternet email addresses associated with your account and each of those get a Flickr pro account.

I have created 2 pro accounts for free and use one for low res images for others to be able to view and the other account has the high res images all set to private.
 
There are other options to Flickr, have a look at smugmug and zenfolio before parting with your cash. Flickr sites, despite the level of photography, always look basic and boring to me, there doesn't seem to be any personalisation and all look exactly the same.

I've just set it up, though it did require a reset of my account password (becuase I'd forgotten it) and then a 15-minute phone call through the BT help system to find out what my btinternet.com email address is and to set the password. Registered the new email with flickr and I was instantly on a pro account.

Can you do this with a normal paid for pro account?
 
I haver a bt account but have been left them for two weeks now so waiting to see when they realise and withdraw my pro account status.
 
Wow, if it wasn't for this thread I wouldn't of know I could upgrade to Pro for free. Thank you :D
 
i have a pro flickr account and think that it's great, but i've just discovered 500px.com, it's US$50 a year but it looks far more professional imo. I'm not sure I can justify having two pro accounts but I may look at changing when my flickr expires.
 
Mmmmmmm, I have a yahoo account and a bt account but can't seem to find how to get the pro version for free ?? Helllllllllllllppppppppppppppp :-)
