Flickr privacy warning

You may have noticed that flickr (nickr) are showing larger photos. Now they allow much larger downloads as well, Well over 2000px on the long side. That is probably enough for printing greeting cards, web, even calendars.

However not everything is lost. Go to http://www.flickr.com/account/privacy/
and set 'Largest shared image size' to 'Large 1024'. This should stop the very worst happening.

Quite possibly, but the IQ would suffer at larger print sizes. 1024 is a reasonable compromise between showing potential clients your work at its best, well maybe 800 is enough. But any more than that and it is encouraging them.

Btw. I've just started another legal mess, here in UK, the balloon pic again. I wouldn't mind 70-200 II one day

You've always been able to download even the original file if the user has left that available :shrug: this is nothing new, but you've always been able to lock that feature, you cannot lock it if your a non pro, but then if your non pro then you cannot view more than 1024px if I remember correctly

My understanding of the new set-up is that it only applies to images uploaded since March 1st, so that may be some relief for you at least.

I think the point that the OP is trying to make is that they have now changed what they make available to view.

Previously if you up loaded a full 5184x3456 image for whatever reason, Flickr made a number of resized images available for others to view on Flickr, the largest being 1024.

Now they make larger sizes available and give you a new setting to limit what is displayed and ultimately available to download.

Thanks for sharing! I never really bothered with Flickr settings, so good to know that this is possible to change.
