Probably asked before but Flickr or picasa for sharing pictures? Why?

Flickr, as when I was looking at which one to go for I found that picasa had a few limitations.

I just g%%gle, will see if I can find the site again.

I use them for different purposes - I use FlickR as a hostand Picassa as an organiser.

I hate Flickr. I use Picasaweb exclusively for online photo storage and sharing. The free Picasaweb account is vastly more generous than Flickr and the EXIF is easily accessible, right there beside the image and also embedded within the image, not buried away behind a series of key clicks, at which point you can't navigate to the next image without retracing your steps first.

If you have a BT internet e-mail address, you can get a Flickr Pro account for free - something to be considered. ;)

Picasa

Thanks for all your replies. I am considering picasa for editing.
However at what point does it lack and better to upgrade to photoshop or similar?

I don't use Picasa for editing at all. I use the Picasa software solely to upload my images to the Picasaweb website. I use Lightroom for editing.

I have no idea how good Picasa is for editing, these days. I used it many years ago and found it lacking immediately. Auto adjustments and a few preset adjustments were not what I wanted. Maybe it's better today, but as I use Lightroom I have no wish to find out.

Quite simply, if you're happy with Picasa then there is no need to change. If there are things you want to do that Picasa does not support then it's time to move on. Personal preference is the name of the game.

flickr for the community, picasa more like a picture browser with basic editing functions with a storage service

Although I prefer the navigation in flickr, there seem to be much better Aperture 3 plugins for Picasa.

Since Flickr made all the changes I am erring on the side of Picasa. I've had an account there for quite sometime but only dipped in and out but today I went through those photos I have using the slideshow option (f11 on your keyboard) and they really pop! My own shots actually impressed me! so Picasa for the near future.

New Flickr is terrible! Is there any way to revert back to the old style photostream page? Hate it won't be renewing this year.

Picasaweb for me, have a token precense on flickr, but dont use it much these days.

Love the new Flickr so much better than the old version

Sort of. If you add ?details=1 to your photostream's URL, you'll be given the old format, using six rows of three smaller-sized images; eg to view mine in that manner:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/porsupah/?details=1

Unfortunately, only that version of the old styles is available. I'd deliberately chosen the one with five large images on the first page of the photostream, as I felt the larger size helped show off significant details in some of my photos, which might be lost on a quick glance at the smaller size.

I don't mind adding the new style - previously available elsewhere on Flickr - as an option, but it's regrettable that it was forced on everyone; it also plays poorly with my iPad - Safari will simply crash on trying to load all the images, presumably due to the relatively modest memory of the first version.

All the same, I'll probably remain with Flickr, simply for the community. I may retain Pro, as the stats don't appear to be available with any of the new accounts, free or paid, and being ad-free is double the price under the new account structure.

flickr has given everyone one free terabyte of storage, that may be a dealbreaker oh and you can upload full size images now

Yes, since Filkr change their look it looks quite shiny.
But what about the copyright ?
I still not sure did they can use your images for other purposes (eg. sell, use, copy, give rights to third party to use them...) ?

Eh????? I think you're a bit confused.

Pardon my English.
My though is when you post your photos there (on Flikr) are they protected in some way, that Flikr can not use them, or sell them to third parties.

I heard that some other social media are planning to possible sell orphan images to third parties.

P.S. Sorry for the off topic.

When you get to your photostream, click on the 'EDIT' button just under your name and you will get the old style photostream style. I'm not a great fan of the new style TBH, the order of the photos keep changing, but the photos on the new style do seem sharper and seem to 'pop' more than the old style.

I was using Photobucket, then when I found out I could put a TB of photo's on Flickr with my BT internet account I started using it, I like the fresh look of Flickr, after reading about Picasa on this thread I thought I would give it a try but I do like Flickr the best, only hope Yahoo and BT do not fall out to soon.

BT have already announced that the relationship is coming to an end. I did highlight this in a couple of threads here and was surprised that no one seemed interested.
