Well well well, it seems Flickr is about to become an absolutely massive stock library?
First thoughts? This is a good thing, it legitimises a model whereby flickr members can be approached for purchases of their photos.
It'll also do some damage to the 'We'd like to use your photo for a big billboard campaign....we can't pay, but you get to see it all big and pretty!' mentality that is abound, whereby companies are using Flickr as free pickings.
Unfortunately, it might encourage people to pick up a camera, and go pro when they still need to RTFM
The Flickr Collection on Getty Images?
Yes. You take fabulous photographs and weve all heard stories (the good, the bad and the ugly) of members whove been approached over the last four years to have their photographs featured beyond the flickrverse.
Team Flickr has long wanted to create a way to make it easier for those who use photos in the digital publishing industry to do so in a way that respects the talent and rights of our members.
The great folks at Flickr and Getty Images are joining forces to build a platform that will enable the creation of a first class collection of royalty free, rights ready, and rights managed photographs that will debut later this year.
