Just logged into my Flickr to see one particular shot (I put on there yesterday) has had thousands of views just for today.

A few of the comments are about it being on Flickr Explore which I'm guessing is the reason it's had far more views, comments, favourites etc ?

Ah - thanks Matt - so it went up to number #70 on Explore (not that I fully understand what that means)

I'd never noticed Explore before.

How does your picture get onto Explore?

If we knew that we would all have photo's in there every day ;)

No one other than flickr staff really knows that answer, and flickr state that over time they make changes to the criteria that are used to select photo's to go into explore...

The photo's are selected via a computer algorithm so it's all based on the programmed criteria

As a general rule of thumb it's believed to stand the best chance of being explored your photo should receive a decent number of views within the first day of being online, a reasonable number of comments and favorites, be added to the flickr map, with correct tags and be in a few relevant groups, it's also been suggested in the past that you should avoid groups that are for driving comments or favorites eg. post one comment on 3 etc type groups

But as I said there really is no way to really say and I've certainly experienced exceptions to the above

Cheers for that.

Well done Sir

Thanks Ricardo

The image had over 5,000 views in a couple of days.

Whilst I don't care about views - it resulted in getting a lot of requests to join 'invitation only' groups which may be of use to my bird photography.
