Nearly all my flickr images are not there and some links of other peoples aren't there either.
Some sort of DDOS attack or deletion of half their servers ?
Bit worrying but when i refresh all i get is big white boxes with a red cross in each !

Mine was down but it's ok now

Hopefully amateur photographers haven't exclusively relied on flickr as storeage for their imaging files. I *always* keep backup files on the PC, a external memory stick, and a mp3 player (not used) failing that. With recovery software if the unimaginable happens and all 3 fail.

thats why its called ((((((FLICKER)))))))):lol::lol::lol:

Don't know about much earlier, but mine's been OK since about 6-ish.

I can't think of any remote reason why I would want to "store" jpegs. At the end of the day these sites are aimed at sharing rather than storing.

That may be our view, but a lot of younger folk put their faith in the hands of the site owners to prevent such DDOS 'attacks' from taking place. But its only a matter of time until a sophisticated group gets through the barriers as we saw with with the PSNetwork and the data breach that caused. I'm not saying every user on Flickr holds an account exclusively in the interest that they do so to hold the pictures on the website as opposed to their operating systems, but some do.

A lot of speculation with no facts in this thread. Can't see why it would be a DDOS attack as only one server farm seems to be down, I would guess a power issue more than anything, also a DDOS attack wouldn't affect any stored images on there. Flickr aren't daft they will have backups even if the worse did happen.

I am sure it will be back soon enough.

Of course Flickr is a back up site. It stores images and not just jpeg, therefore it's a back up and a very good one too :thinking:
