Naturally enough, for the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market in Bangkok.

We'd provide proper credits, of course. Please tell us how you would like to be credited (your name etc)
We'd also be happy to include a link (to your Flickr page, website, a blog, etc.) as well.

May we have permission?

Good day Dave,
I would like your permission to use your picture of the Testudo hermanni

in a poster to be presented at a vertebrate pest ********** this year in ******, Australia.
I work for the Department of ***** and *** of *** Australia for the B********, ******program. We are preparing a poster to be presented this year in an international conference on the problems we encounter with assessing reptiles to get into the State. We do not intend to sell any material, we will be using it only for awareness and educative purposes.
We will appreciate it if you allow us to use your picture. I can assure you that we will provide the respective credits to your picture.
Thanks in advance,

My dilemma is do I carry on giving my photos away or do I ask for a small fee, or just be credited for my work,

I appreciate they have at least asked my permission, but it would be nice to think that if I did have a small fee and saved up I could afford a 40D or some new glass

looking froward to your thoughts on my dilemma !!!

Dave

if they want the photos then they will pay

A good rule to follow is if the request is for a commercial use ask for payment, if it's non-commercial and you're happy to support the cause just ask for a credit.

:agree:

I'd be asking the first to pay up as they will more than likely be using the image in a brochure in order to advertise holiday deals, i.e. they will be potentially making money from using your image.

As for the second one, this sounds like a University or similar wanting to use the image at a conference - in my experience they won't have any or very little money available to them which will more than likely have all been used up in getting to and staying at the conference! If you are happy to let them use it FOC then I think this will be the best you could hope for - I guess asking for a small amount might work though

I agree. The first is clearly a commercial venture, they should pay.

The second, if it is purely educational, (even if its a commercial enterprise on an educational drive or something), then I would allow it for just credit.

first one pays, second one your call

Sorry for the delay in replying.

Thank you all very much for your replies and advice, you have more or less confirmed my thinking, on my dilemma, obviously as you say the first is a commercial venture, How would I broach the subject of a small fee, and how much would a reasonable amount to ask be?

Second yes I believe it is a university, maybe I'll just ask them for a credit and retain the copyright, also it would be, good if they could send me a E-copy of the finished poster, so I can see how it was used.

Thanks again for your time and looking

Dave
