To use a phrase from Big.... "I don't get it... "

Ive created an account, uploaded 50 or so photos, added tags, descriptions and stuff... Now want? I think i must be missing the point of it? :amstupid:

me too, I've got a flickr account but thinking of deleting it

You need to join groups , then drag and drop your photo's into the specific group to the photo... Example if you have a beach shot upload to one of the many beach or landscape groups.

Groups are like subsections of a forum , if you don't upload and post on the forum who will see the photos :)

It's useful to put your photos on then upload to the forum from there, as you don't have to fill your TP gallery with photos you're not sure of. If you edit other peoples pics you can put them on flickr and mark them as private then they can only be seen by you or other people on the forum following the link.

Other people can look at your photos and download small copies of them if they like them, or contact you if they want to buy a bigger version. I don't know if anyone ever does, but at least it's a window to the world.

It's a very active community. You need to try and get involved in it, not just wait for stuff to happen. Look at other peoples images, learn from them, comment on their pictures, ask questions, join group discussions, share your images, offer advice. There is so much to do on Flickr. It's not just a photo sharing site but a lot more to it.

Isn't that what a forum is?

Arhh... I see, seems like ive just wasted a few hours then, as ive got my own webspace and online Galleries for hosting images... and i can post mine and comment on other peoples photos directly on here... im not seeing any advantage of Flickr...

Well I don't use it, but try and imagine it as talkphotograpgy , only, 300,000,000,000,000 times bigger in terms of users and number of images etc....

My stats are slightly pie in the sky, but you get the point. Probably less of a community feel to it, but still pretty cool.

If I could be bothered uploading more, I would get more involved :)

Like Gary said it is pretty much TP on a very large scale. For example it is usefull if you want to find info on more specific topic than might be covered on here...there are also lots of groups for large town and cities in England (and abroad) so if you want to share photos of your home town that might not fit on here too well as they are not very interesting if you dont know the place etc.

Basically it is a just a VERY large photo community full of a wealth of knowledge and experience. No where near as friendly as this place, but is a usefull tool.

It is also a very good way to get noticed and to just browse photos. You can tag your photos and then search for other tags. I use it all the time if I am going to be shooting somewhere. A quick look on flickr first and see what is there and what has been done a million times before.

Just found the Map button and had fun looking at the shots around my town, only a dozen or so, but thats kinda interesting, ill give it a bash. :)

Likd the new site Gary - nice and clean and easy to navigate
