I'm desperately needing to move out of where I am at the moment. Preferably to somewhere that's closer to work.

Of the flat-sharing sites I've been on, they all seem to want to do nothing other than take your money and get you to sign up before giving you any decent search results.

Does anyone know (or have you used) of any good sites I could take a look at?

Cheers

Dave

I'd be very wary of Gumtree. I've known plenty of flats on there be rented out by people who aren't even the landlords!

My suggestion would be to have a look in the local paper - many of them have sections in the property pages with people advertising a room in a shared property.

Always worth checking the notice boards at your work. May well find someone with a room to rent or even a house share. In the current financial climate people are seeking to help themselves by renting out spare rooms.

When looking round shared houses/flats, check the fridge. If the residents feel the need to mark their milk/juice etc, you may not want to live there. Check for bog roll too - do they trust each other to share nicely? Have they bothered to do the washing up or is there a metre high pile waiting for the next mug resident to do it?
