Ello there, so... Been developing like a man possessed lately and got myself a nice little collection of negatives but they are all a little concave or convex, which ever way you look at them.
Now, is there something i can be doing to prevent this after development or is it as simple as putting them in their sleeves and stacking books on top? Its becoming a bit of a pain in the ass scanning them the way they are

As you say, putting them in sleeves under a heavy book overnight has worked well for me - I just make sure the negative is properly dry to avoid any risk of it sticking to the sleeve.

I found that when i dried them, if you weigh the end of the negative down enough it makes the negatives nice and flat, i use a few weighted film clips per roll. It really depends on the film base though, Fomapan is curlier than a curly thing but Fuji Acros and Ilford films tend to be flat enough to iron your clothes on

Ive stacked books on top before with pretty good results as well, did take a lot of weight though

3 Engineering textbooks, a ream of paper and a Mamiya RB67

Gennerally speaking I haven't had any issues with 35mm or 120 format as the scanner I have has dedicated holders for those sizes and therefore holds the film flat.

I have however had some big probs with 127 format negs which curl like nowt on earth.

I asked for help here:

Some of the replies may help you....

Good luck

I currently have 4 sheets of negatives under two heavy hardback books, and two folders full of paper. Doing a good job - although the 10 year expired Superia is still resisting the flattening slightly.

Im mainly getting the problem with tri x 400 and yea funny you should say the delta 400 i had is pretty flat, i squashed all my negs this morning with some heavy books, **** or bust style. Not been in the study to check yet.

Is that with 35mm or with 120? My 120 Tri-X tends to dry quite flat.

Its 35, checked this afternoon and still not flat, so will give them til Saturday night under the books to see what happens.
I am using bulldog clips that are wider than the film and clipping three to the free end during drying. The one i did Thursday night is still looking concave?!

I always struggle with XP2 - it's like a Pig's tail! it was definitely improved by getting it really warm when drying and having plenty of weight on the end of it. Even my local lab occasionally has problems with it!
