Just looking at flashguns for a Canon 350 and was wondering what experiences people may have had with any 3rd party ones, i know people will say go for a genuine Canon job and i probably will, but would appreciate a bit of help and advice first
Ta very much Pete :shrug::thinking:

They are mostly pretty rubbish, the Sigma ones are okay, but i'd never recommend a cheap one from eBay.

I'd just go for the 430EX or EXII, defo worth the extra money. The 430 isn't particularly expensive either, especially for what it is and how it will improve your photos.

I would second that. I got the 430 EXII recently and am chuffed to bits with it. If you do buy it I would recommend getting cheap radio triggers from ebay to get the flash off camera. Then get busy with homemade snoots and honeycomb grids. There is great fun to be had.

I haven't been that happy with my Sigma flash unit either on the 350 or the 40D. I "should" have got the 430 - the latest version is worth the money in my opinion.

whats the big differences between the 430 and the II?

I think the 430 EXII has a faster recycle time. It has silent recycle and a better hotshoe mount which locks in place rather than the screw thingy of the 430.

Given they are pretty much the same price I would go for the mark 2

Yep just a few minor differences, although i'd buy the EXII over the EX purely for the far better hotshoe mount, the screw ones are no where near as good.

Thanks for the comments folks, looks like a 430 EXII may be finding its self in my bag in the near future.
After all Mrs Walt did ask if there was anything else i wanted for my birthday in january, so i can tell her that the nice people on TP say she has to get me one cant i
