Hi all, im after getting my first flash gun to help me improve my photography. And looking at add to it over time and build up some kit. From ready on here this I gather seems the best way to go over a cheap continuous light source

I'm new to all, this so looking for some recommendation on what to go for?

I have a budget of £150 maybe at a pushy £200 max. Cheaper the better. Getting a new camera at weekend, a 60d it says something about a built in transmitter for flash

Thanks

I really like my 480 ex II.

Although you could get a yongnuo equivalent cheaper

Nissin DI866 mkii. Masses amount of power. Can be used as a master, works in TTL mode cost approx. £170.
I chose this over the Canon 580 as it costs less and works as good. Also adding any other flashes later you can get just the non master ones to save cash.

How do these compare to the Yongnuo 565EX ETTL Speedlite Flash for Canon?

the 565 and the 568 are both very good. I was just saying it would be nice to have a flash that can be used as a master, where the Yongnuo are not.
But yes buy the 565/568 and when you came to buy any more just get the Yongnuo 622c triggers to go with them

Ok thanks for your reply gary996... I will more than likely have a close look at the nissin, seeing as my 60d as a buitl in transmitter dont really want to have to buy triggers etc as well at a later date.. if im thinking right that is that with the nissin i can have them in different places depending on set up and my 60d will fire them?

Yes, within the limits of the Canon wireless system, which is good for indoors in small rooms, less good in larger rooms or outside, and nigh on unusable outside in bright daylight.

I have both the 580EXII and Di866II. I find the on flash menu on the Nissin easier to use. For wireless use the Nissin is fully compatible with Yongnuo 622C transceivers, and can also be controlled from the on camera flash menus of both the 7D and 1D MkIII.

Go for the Nissin DI866 Pro mkii, excellent flash.

Sorry to be a pain, see mixed reviews about these
Sigma EF 610 DG Super Flashgun - Canon Fit

How do these compare?.. One as come up a good price, only 1 month old. but not sure if worth going for, or paying the ext a £70 to get one of the above mentioned

Power output is comparable to the Canon, but the menu system is a real pain. You are also required to trog through the menu system each time you want to change the power setting in manual.

Forget it!

I've got the Yongnuo 568EX, think it was around £110-120 new from Hong Kong as I wanted to make sure I had the updated model. Nearly bought the Canon 430EX but the cheapest ive found it new was £190 so quite a saving and im yet to find a benefit it would of had.
Very happy with the Yonguno and definitely makes a difference having the HSS for outdoors fill light which was the main reason I upgraded to it.

I had a yongnuo 565ex and used it on a eos 60d it worked fantastic for 2 month and than just packed up the flash would not recharge and a few of the buttons stopped working :/ anyway i got in touch with yongnuo but to no avail. I was told the capacitors had died. Anyway i took it to bits and realised it was to technical for me so bit the bullet and got a conon 580 mk2 and never looked back i think you only pay for what you get!

I have that nissin and I absolutely love it!

If you don't need the power of the larger Nissins, there's the Nissin Di622 Mark2, which I've found to be excellent, and with a guide number of 44(m) not exactly under-powered - can be had for around £110.

I've still got an aged Nissin hammerhead flashgun, which gave sterling service for many years in a professional environment - not the best known make, but certainly a good one!
