Flashguns from jessops?

They will work but the flash will not "talk" to the camera, a dedicated flashgun will give better control but they are a lot more expensive

They only have a guide number of 15, that's about the same is the built in flash on your 400D. Also I don't think they're compatible with trigger voltage so could do some damage.

Avoid.

Was in jessops on sunday looking at the 40D and also asked about there flash guns how they would compare to a speedlite and the shop assistand did say always go with speedlite as theres arnt as powerfull.
He said for canon only use speedlites

I got a cheap sigma from jessops last week, £66 for a sigma 500 st, its not as good as the sigma super model or a proper canon, but for 66 notes was worth a try, lacks controls you have a choice of just: e-TTLII (full auto metering), manual full power or manual 1/16 power. A few test shots looked good, not used in anger yet.

As part of the bundle I got with my 350D I got a Jessops flash. Apparently it would have cost £100 new. Anyhow, I want to get a Speedlight, so I'm gonna sell it on Ebay, along with the 18-55mm kit lens, hopefully this will help fund part of the speedlight!
