Hi,

I have a Sony A230 and have been given an old Cobra flash. Is there any way I can connect the two?

Thanks
Richard

You can get a little adapter that converts the shoe to Sony's unique fit. It will then fire, but you will lose any of the Sony's brand-specific flash metering. Then there is also the worry about high triggering voltage of older flashes frying the Sony's circuits.

I think it is probably better to forget it and buy a new gun. You will get full functionality without the worries. You could sell it on here for a few quid (when you've got the required post count) as it will probably work fine as an extra head in a strobist set up.

Taking it off camera is the only thing you can do without risking frying the camera.

Use a multimeter to measure the trigger voltage on it. Anything above a few volts (old flashes may have up to several hundred I believe) might well kill your camera.
