Hi all this is my first posting here so please reply even if you carnt help!!;)

I have a Sigma sd9 and i'm looking for a flash gun to go with it, but the ef500st and ef500dg which are recomended by manufacturer are hard to get hold of i went to my local camera store and they only had two ef500dg's and four sf500st's in the hole country, and guess what not anywhere near me.

does any one know if the sd9 can take any other flash gun?

please help;)

Hi BIGal

Cant help I'm afraid, but hello and welcome

According to DP Review who tested your camera

HERE

The SD9's flash hot-shoe has a single X-sync contact and three electronic flash connectors for use with Sigma's own STTL flash units the EF-500 DG Super SA and EF-500 DG ST SA. There is also a PC Sync terminal adapter (ST-11) which can be used to trigger studio / external flash units.

Personally I'd be inclined to get one of the recommended units - you could do untold damage sticking an incompatible flashgun in the hotshoe.

I take it these guns were at other branches of the same store? Wont they get you one transferred to your local branch?

yes they could send for it, but it would take 2 weeks or so, and i could realy do with it asap, as my son's birthday is coming up soon and would like to get some good shots of him.

Check the web - I'm sure lots of places will have them in stock and post to you straight away. ;)

or for the sake of urgency, just buy an vivitar 285 or something, therefore only the center contact (which is to fire it, not exposure readings etc) would touch. obviously you'd have to set the power of the flash manually, but that really isn't that big of a deal.

Sigma EF 500 DG ST Flash Gun - Sigma SA-STTL Fit is in stock at Fotosense for £94.99 They also have the DG Super version in stock for £149.99

Yes m8 I've bought from them a couple of times, their service is excellent. A number of other board members have also used them, if you do a search on fotosense you'll see their opinions too.

off topic a litte, whats the sd9 like to use?

i'm not very good yet, at this photography game so i carnt realy compair it to much, my first camera was pentax me super then a sigma sa7 then i made that move to digital, love the camera, had to put it away for a wile because of bussy family life (two young kids work ect ect) so its made a welcomed come back, i love the easy to use controls. on the down side you are never in full control of camera.

overal with my lack of experience i do like it!!
