Flash

Or would I be better with a Canon Speedlite 420EX TTL Flash that i can get for the same price.

Can get that for £99 form Amazon :)

Question is, is it better than the 420EX Canon

The one steep linked to is £154 at amazon. Sigma make 2 versions.

I'll let someone else answer as to what is better. I'd guess the answer is the Sigma super.

No you can't, it's £160 from Amazon. I'm talking about the 500DG Super not the 500DG. The Super is more powerful and has a load more functionality, check them both out on the Sigma website.

/edit RobertP beat me to the answer :)

I just started a similar discussion in another thread regarding a cheap flash. I think I'm going to wait until the new year and get a 430EX. The 580 might be a bit bulky and overkill for my needs. I toyed with the idea of the Sigma, since it seemed good for the money - but I think I'm going to stick with the Canon kit for now.

Maybe I will wait till you buy somethng then, see what you think, then i can decide, LOL

Another option is to buy a used flash off ebay. Then if you find you need more from it you can sell it again for about what you paid.

Maybe check this thread out, xxredmaxx has this for sale:

Canon Speedlite 430EX Flash. Mint condition in original box with mini stand, instruction book and soft pouch.
I also have a STO-FEN omni to go with it.

Asking £150.00 +p&p

Might be worth alook as its a newer model than the 420EX.

I've had both and the Canon is far better than the Sigma.

:'( :(
